Default Best (cheaper) alternative to stock OEM dampers

The new board still has teething troubles so I'm unable to search due to an invalid security token (whatever that means).

Anyways, do you experts have recommendations for an aftermarket damper that has similar damping characteristics to the OEM ITR dampers? The OEM ITR dampers are in the $230 range. I'm looking for something cheaper but just as good. Otherwise I'll just have to save up for the OEM dampers.

Well, I have a set of Tokico Illuminas on my 97R right now on the 3rd setting out of 5 total settings and it feels very much like the stock dampers, better. Don't know how long it'll last though.

I did some research in the old forum a couple of weeks ago, I wanted to know about good dampers for stock ride height, and it pretty much came down to a concensus on Bilstein Sports. According to my findings they will feel similar in comfort and will add performance over stock.

Good luck.

$230 is 15% above list price.

$161.68- front
$163.38- rear

If you're using stock springs, nothing is going to out-perform stock, valving wise.

Yup. That's what I put on my ITR when the stock ones started to go.

You can look up Bilstein dealers on the Bilstein website. Here are the part numbers for the Bilstein Sports for the ITR:

ACURA INTEGRA SP FRONT 96-01
Manufacturer: BILSTEIN
New part#: F4-BE5-2340-H0
List Price: $ 202.00
Setting: Sport (SP)
Position: Front

ACURA INTEGRA REAR SP 96-01
Manufacturer: BILSTEIN
New part#: F4-BE5-2341-H0
List Price: $ 202.00
Setting: Sport (SP)
Position: Rear

I don't know whether or by how much you might get them at a discount.

It's also worth noting that most aftermarket shocks (including Bilstein, Koni, Tokico, etc) come with a lifetime warranty to the original purchaser, which is an advantage over the stock ones. Save your purchase receipt!

Just get Koni Yellows and call it a day. You can also set them on the lower perch and lower the car a few mm.
