Default Having trouble getting trans lined up to motor

So like the title says, I'm having trouble getting my trans lined up to my motor. Does anyone have any tips/tricks to help line everything up? Both the motor and trans are out of the car, which in theory should make getting everything together a lot easier, but for some reason, I just can't get it line up. Any help is appreciated.

Your clutch may not be aligned right.

Clutch seems to be lined up correctly. I've even taken the clutch out and reinstalled it taking extra time to make sure it was lined up right, so I don't think that's the issue. Any other ideas?

Like listed above, do you have the correct clutch? What year is your tranny. If it is an 88 tranny, the 89-91 clutch will not work, and vice versa. So count the teeth on the clutch and the tranny input shaft, i gaurantee it is different. Other than that, there should be no reason why its not just sliding on.

my trick was a little grease on the shaft, then jiggled it in while whispering dirty things to it

Well, turns out it's the wrong clutch, but what's really weird is that the spline count is exactly the same. The difference is that the splines were a different size, so I don't know.
