Default VTEC cams in non VTEC head?

Sorry if it is a bonehead question but is it posible to run GSR or ITR cams in an LS head??

If not, who makes a good aftermarket cam for non-vtec heads?

For an LS, try JG 301's or Crower 303's. Both are very streetable cams that make very good power.

Joke? Vtecvoodoo and I welded a few of the cam lobes so I can get that extra VTEC effect. But I lost 4whp at a Socal Dyno day.

The hammer to the head certainly doesn't help the decision....but thanks anyways guys...I'll check out the crower 303's ad the todas....

I figured it was a dumb question but I'd rather look stupid then spend the $$$ and feel stupid when they don't work....

I still am pretty new and inexperienced to this...sorry if I wasted your time in answering this...

Look here at whata vtec head is actually all about and decide for yourself if vtec cams will work in a non-vtec head:

The low RPM lobes of a VTEC cam is milder than your LS cams. The reason being is because they were designed to make power up to the VTEC crossover which is at a lower RPM than the LS redline (the LS cams are designed to make power to its redline).

Also, you don't want to put these on because of the increased rotating mass. The VTEC cam would do nothing in your LS head except increase the force required to spin the cams.

Don't worry about the stupid questioon, the ITR owners post those all the time.

Try Crower NOS grinds.. they idle lumpy lump nice. Plus good for spraying nitrous, which is what I'd do with a LS motor if I didn't put a snail on it

A SOHC works best with DOHC motors

Well....I'm hoping for the time being that, with bolt-ons, slicks, and other little goodies, that I can run quick enough going NA.....

My goal for right now (ignore the sig) is to get into the 14's....

And Tommy_Gunns, that was very informative and now I truly understand why it would be stupid, thanks man!

another vote for the Crower 403's or 404's (403's are very nice on the street).

throw in some TypeR pistons for a made ride (slight milling required).
