Default 1989 NINJA 750 offered to me for $100, should i get it? it has

been stripped to the bare frame, but he said he has all the parts for it. motor isn't running, carbs are there. and plastics are not looking good.

would it be possible to throw in a new motor, rewire the entire bike maybe add in a power commander, HID set off a newer bike?, and individual throttle bodies? first ever mil-spec harness for a bike? or build a piece of crap looking street fighter?

i have never ridden a bike, but i am surrounded by guys that like to dirt bike, and a few guys REALLY into bike modification everything i know is from them talking about it or hanging around them just watching. i don't have alot of special bike tools, **** load of special honda tools. would this be a viable build? i want to learn about bikes, seem interesting.

get a honda VFR single sided swing arm or something, pretty much have the bike naked. and update the looks a little bit?

dammit, it's a NINJA 750 r, i don't know why i thought gixxer

if you could get it running for a couple hundred bucks and stomach riding an old bike then YES its well worth 100 bucks, but ideally, that bike in mint condition is only worth 1500 bucks ish. maybe 2k on a good day.

Anything is possible for fabbing up and dropping a new motor in, but its not going to just bolt right up and look pretty and the mods you were talking about doing would cost WELLLLLL over the value of this bike. just go buy a running bike and if you want the look of a modern bike, save your money and buy one... 636's are constantly dipping into the low to mid 3000's and f4i's have been there too.

RELIABILITY, STYLE, POWER > tooling around on a pieced together turd.

If its your first bike and you just wanna practice, understand, its only purpose is to learn on and not make pretty, then i say do it. Tire ~200 bucks, NEW MOTOR ~1000 bucks, ~???? bucks for the mounts and fab work to make it fit, 20 year old suspension parts that need to be rebuilt or replaced = big money, Hid's ~ 200 bucks (and they still look dated with that upper), NOT TO MENTION THE HUNDREDS OF HOURS YOU PUT INTO THIS NOTTTTTT RIDING IT.

You'd be better finding a used motor of the same year, and dropping it in (cuz everything will line up)

don't care about plastics and what not. are'nt running 1989 engines hard to find? and i don't like to deal with carbs which is a reason im considering a swap. i don't mind grinding and welding on the bare frame.

i think ill offer him 50, if he takes 50 ill go for it? i saw that some of the street fighter guys buy old frames like this and rebuild back up. they get newer front ends on them apperantley.

i don't mind spending alot of time on this thing. i'm not planning to take it and show it off or anything.

maybe something like this, but flat black primer on his painted parts?
less expensive wheels, and just a round HID system.

leave all the plastics off since they make it look like an old bike? or is this pretty shitty looking?

not looking to pick up chicks with it( not into that thing, guys on new bikes pull up to starbucks and just talk about it) , just to ride around in it.

like i said... your 100 dollar project will turn into a headache and money pit. Save up and buy something more reliable and modern.

And if you were willing to spend 100 on it, and now lowballing to 50, to save 50 bucks. I dont think a project like this is going to be up your alley.

Just being realistic. Good luck.

Me personally, I enjoy riding too much to want to spend my nice days wrenching on a motorcycle and waiting for new parts to come in.

No,
not worth it,
no,
not worth it,

YES,

yes.

There'd be a couple more yes's in there if it were what you thought it were.

Edit: Oh yeah for $100, if you have the time and desire for a project, get it. Make sure its legit and turns over.

Is that an air cooled engine? If it is, good luck trying to get a liquid cooled one in there. For a few thousand bucks you could have a newer bike that's ready to ride and you could make modifications along the way.

Its water cooled. Not necessarily a plus for a hundred dollar project bike.

kind of what i am aiming for is to NOT be THAT guy who just talks about driving/riding then take everything to the dealer for minor ****, all the time.

guy in my welding class ( kind of, he is in the TIG class and i am being certifeid for structural steel welding in flux core and stick not much tig work out there).

i want to low ball for it to save as much as i can for parts, no need to run out and pay some guy top dollar for his salvaged bike in pieces.

he said he bought a cheap frame swapped in an IRONhead, cheap transmisson and pretty much built his own bike, i saw him hammering out a seat pan made a bracket it for it and drove home on it.

i don't know **** about bikes. just cars which im guessing is completely different.

but welding and cars i can handle. i am hoping to get a nice cheap project i can get into and learn, the last thing i want to do is just run out and finance a shiny new bike, becuase i know i'll F it up.

pretty sure the 89 was air cooled but i could be wrong.

anyway dude for 100 bucks thats a steal. if you dont even want it you could part it out and make some cash. plus working on bikes is fun and you learn a thing or two about wrenching on them.

i should be picking up an 87 gsxr 1100 for 500 tommorrow, and its my nasty fighter project for this winter!
