Is there a tech write up on auto to manual swaps anywhere?
I'm about 75% done swapping the auto trans out of my '88 CRX DX in favor of a manual, but I've got a few nagging details to clear up while I wait for the correct rear trans mount to arrive. Is there a detailed tech write up anywhere that I can use for guidance?
Barring that, can anybody tell me how critical the placement of the hole for the clutch cable is? I've eyeballed it, and it looks like it's going to be a royal pain in butt to get the placement of the hole EXACTLY right, especially since I don't even have a good photo of the clutch cable location on a stock manual trans car.
Thanks

The placement doesn't matter and it your manual mount should work just needs to be moved over if I'm not mistaken. Some one help me with this?

thanks for the help guys. I did search before I posted and didn't find anything of use.
There's only one junkyard within 150 miles of my house, and they don't have any Hondas, so that's out as well.
I've got the pedal assembly in, but I was surprised to find that there's no hole for the clutch cable, and not even a mark or stamped detent where it goes. I think I'm goig to use a spring punch and mark the location from the inside and then drill from the outside.
Does the clutch cable have any kind of clip to hold it in the firewall? My cable didn't come with one and I'm not sure if its missing or just doesn't exist.

WARNING!! please save yourself the headache and use something thick on the firewall to brace your cable as it will break through.... i used a think spacer and one of my tow hooks to run the cable through the firewall but i'll post picks of what im talking about.
So is the stock bulkhead reinforced at that location then? I'm heading into town right now for some other items. I'll stop by the hardware store and buy a large, thick fender washer to use as a reinforcing plate.
If somebody could snap a photo of this location and post it, it would sure help me out. At least if there's any factory reinforcement, I can see what it looks like.

and this

here you can see where it needs to be rienforced and where the cable was ripping through the firewall...i tried bracing t with the spacer pictured but its not a flat surface behind that gap

Wow, that seems like a lot of damage. Did you break the shift linkage because you were having problems shifting and were just pulling that much harder on it?
My clutch cable has about a 1.5" flange where it bears on the firewall. Unless maybe your cable housing broke, it looks from the photo of the hole like yours didn't have the same flange on it. I've checked and mine doesn't even flex when I depress the clutch.
I will have to think about reinforcing that corner bolt on the pedal assembly though. I've got an idea or two that might help in that dept.

well aside from it being an avid shift linkage.........(which they shipped me a new one free of charge), i was putting a little more then average force on it because of the clutch not engaging properly. ive also managed to ruin my tranny(bad 3rd gear grind) and poped 2 clutch cables so far. the ef pedal assebly is a piece of crap as it is so rienforcent is not a bad idea, just dont wait to reinfore it because it is a bitch to swap out..(so far ive done it 3 times). and believe me, the firewall will not hold. BTW heres a pick of where the hole is supposed to be
Cool, thanks for the extra pic... Looks like the firewall for manual trans cars is just a little bit different from auto cars.
Are you running the stock clucth or an upgraded one? Also, is it a honda cable you have? And did the cable/housing also break or did it just get pulled through the firewall?
Anyway, the clutch cable is the least of my worries right now. I found out yesterday that my 5 speed is toast, (bad mainshaft bearing, broken shift fork, broken speedo drive, bad input seal, the works) so I need to replace that before I worry about modifying anything.
