Default itr head question

this is in regards to the factory polish itr heads have. do they only have it polished just behind the valve seat? or is it suppose to run the entire port? thanks for any info. (scroll down for the answer.. thanks guys appreciate the help)

brand new 2001 c5 head, is this all the polish new heads get? (near valve openings)

or maybe new heads dont get the special specific attention.

Having a little roughness produces better fuel atomization. Not sure if this is too much or not though. Post this in the All Motor forum, and be more descriptive about the problem in the title.

NOT the way it "should" look. Regardless of on the car from the factory, or a BNIB dealership replacement. All ITR heads are ported/polished. That looks like fresh casting marks.

Do you have the part number you ordered? I wonder if they sent you a B16 head? PR3-x

ITR heads only get slight hand work done to the area right behind the valve seat, which this head clearly has. The only thing in question is casting quality.

I dunno man. I'd do as you said via PM and have him check the rest of his stock. Should NOT be the casting marks like the picture above.

correct this is what i have, i thought the "polish from factory" went through the entire intake/exhaust ports?

if this is how the itr head ports are suppose to look like as far as the polish then everything is fine. i knew it was a mild polish i just thought it was much more than just behind the valve seat?

I see casting marks, and I've never seen those on the many of ITR heads I had in my hands. Both off of ITR's that rolled from the showrooms, and BNIB dealership replacements.

AFAIK, there was never any "porting" done to ITR cylinder heads. The original 96-98 ITR cylinder heads recieved hand performed machining to the valveseat and throat area of the port, and after '98 the process was performed by CNC, as shown in the picture the OP has shown. The machining never went past the valve guide on any B-series 'R' cylinder head (see picture below).

Heads aren't polished at all, its a bowl port.

Brand new ITR head. Pic is crap, but you can see the bowl port by the change in color.

yea the casting marks are very odd, it runs straight across the entire head, (you can see how it runs on the outside aswell), in both the intake and exhaust ports...
