Default Yet another Overheating Question/Problem --- 91 SE

Ive searched and read all of the new and archived content about the overheating issues people are having and i just need to get a few things clear.

Heres the Issue, the girlfriend was driving the car and it would studder and stall out when she would slow down to a stop and then at one point it stalled and wouldnt start again. Im guessing it over heated and computer shut it down?? im not sure but when i got to the car it started right up and i filled it up full of water and drove it about a mile back to my house. Now ive checked for leaks and non present, my oil looks fine and water pump seems to be working as well. Now what im thinking is that the Thermostat is stuck closed because when i start up the car and let it warm up to temp the return hose gets really hot but the other hose stays cool. Anyone agree or disagree??

The lower hose is the return hose, the top hose is output from the engine.

But I think you are on the right track, when the T-stat is closed there is no flow of coolant.

Or the radiator is completely plugged up.
