how much power are we talking? what size slicks?

my intuition says that autozone lifetime warranty might be a good idea if you are under say, 300hp. above that, you probably need something stronger.

hopefully i'll put about 300 to the wheels and with a mostly stock b16 before it blew i broke like 3 axles in four months. i wanna run 13 or 14 inch wheels and about an 8 inch wide slick.

Learn how to properly preload, then there isn't a need for upgraded axles.

horse ****...

i launch my car off the e brake... axles are about as loaded down as they can get... i break an axle every track outing... i bring 2 extra for each side.... have changed them both at the track in 12 minutes between rounds... it was awesome and i'm on 235/60/15 mt et street radials... specs in sig

to op:

300 isn't too much.... you shouldn't need aftermarket axles. just make sure you get some lifetime warranty from oreillys or az... (i work at oreilly, the new masterpro axles hold up pretty well) as for slicks... some stock si's with some 22in slicks should be more than enough... or you could get some 13in rims w some 22in slicks... that would hook great... just make sure you preload them axles

You should search, there's allot of companies. I know there's tons of adds in magazines. I doubt they won't be unreliable

For the OP and his estimated 300whp there isn't a need for upgraded aftermarket axles, but we both agree on that.

For you, looking at your sig you would obviously benefit from using a full drag slick, and it really doesn't surprise me that you are braking cheap/stock replacement axles with that power level and tire combo even with good preloading.

to the OP, run 13" x 7.5" lenso wheels(available from exospeed in the sponsor section) they are fairly inexpensive and work great. for axles DSS is the way to go, they have a great rep and a few options to help you out. for the price of the 2.9's you would probably spend that on replacements or a tow home.

with that said i ran this whole season on stock axles @ 3-340hp launching at 6800rpm on 24.5" slicks and not one breakage. only problem i had was once a boot clamp came loose and made a mess.

drag radials can be harder on the drivetrain.... pre-loading works period... without it i can guarantee you will break axles.

I think an easy cure to your breaking problems would be to get a real slick with a softer, taller sidewall. ET streets have too stiff of a sidewall that creates wheelhop.

To the OP, I have exospeed 13's, 23" MH racemasters, this would be a great setup for 300whp+. Another grewat thing about this setup is that they have a very simular outer diameter as a 15" wheel with a 205/50 15.

FWIW, here is a pic of my wheel/slick setup

you would also want to take in to consideration what tranny you are running before you purchase a set of slicks due to the gearing differences

as far as the axles go. you should be just fine on stock axles at 300hp with proper preloading. i have run a set of stock axles the past two years with 24.5x8x13 slicks running mid to low 11's the whole time in a 2400lb car. and i ended the year with a 10.80 on 475hp. i have not yet broken an axle at the track or on the street with this setup

current set up b16 making 370 on 17lbs and 30shot...used 22" x 8" x 15" mt worked good went 12.1 with 1.88 have been 1.72

Very true, I hence the reason I like 23's. (gearing is almost the same as my street tires.)

Also headwork becomes a factor, being that you can rev higher and stay in gears longer.

before you launch the car, while its revved at the line you wanna let the clutch out til it starts to engage and hold it there, then when you do launch just slip it out. dont dump it! its the harsh engagement that breaks axles not just power, most people dont understand that.

i get consistant 1.70-1.72 60's all that time with stock axles and have never broken one at the track and thats launching on antilag around the 450 hp range

just to give you some more info...with my jdm b16a trans and 24.5" slicks i crossed the traps at about 8500rpm in fourth @124mph, so like said get the right size tires that fit your tranny and your rpm limit, so that you cross the traps in fourth at around that limit.

OT but super clean car robx7fcna(you should post the details of it in the Boosted EF thread in the F/I section ) not sure if that is your racing ride height with those slicks, but if it is i would give yourself some more room for those slicks to grow.

Thanks speeddave, I cant remember if I have posted info in the boosted EF thread, I'll check it out.

As for the ride height, it is a bit deceiving as my driveway slopes diagonally and it is the low side in the picture. this front veiw shows what I mean
