Default rear wheel bearings....what will happen?

when i'm driving my 89 crx...i can hear the back tires spinning super bad. a mechanic told me that it's because of my wheel bearings being bad....my question is.....how important is it to fix this problem. if i don't what will happen?

its not so much of a safety issue... but at the same time why not fix it? bad wheel bearings drive me CRAZY!

Actually it is a safety issue... or at least a possible stranded on the side or the road or [freaking] some stuff up really bad if it goes on you. Replace it and be done with it and not have to worry about it anymore.

its bad.. Imagine if one wheel suddenly decided to stop spinning when you are going 60 mph. its worth it to replace it, because you will instantly get better gas mileage as well.

hes right. although very unlikeley, the bearing coudl develop so much play your rotor could rub against your caliper bracket and lock up, or at least slow down your wheel.

My buddies wheel fell off his 6th gen but I didn't know if it was a wheel bearing or not since he's not very mechanically inclined and didn't fix it himself.
