Default turboed4dr's build/timeline thread

turboed4dr’s build thread/timeline

FIRST: I would like to thank everyone who has helped me in the past. Special thanks to Johnls: all of the hrs you’ve put in on this are truly appreciated (you deserved that free b16), Kayvon and Brandon: thanks for the best details, Joe and Tempest for the favors and hook-ups here and there and all of the time and advice, and of course my girlfriend Katrina for not killing me during the build. Anyone else THANKS!

The cars history: This was my first car at age 16 which my mom picked out. She chose a 4dr because she knew that all I wanted to do was work on it and she didn’t think I would ever try to make a 4dr a race car. The first thing I did was get a b16 with a couple bolt ons. I had Joe tune it with S100 and from there he just talked me into more power. Later I bought a full-race turbo kit and was tuned at 315hp for over a year. It was fun having a fast 4dr sleeper and beating up on some old domestic guys. Joe found me a great deal on a fully built and assembled motor from Justice Racing so I bought that along with improving all of my parts. Here is the build.

FROM THIS…

TO THIS…

(Thanks for the great pics Jenny)

2005-2007
Stock B16 w/ Full-race stage2gt turbo kit Tuned by Tempest at 315whp (DD)

Oct 2007
Tempest tuned 409whp for MIR WCF event. (Still DD)

Nov 2007
At WCF I ran a 12.5 @ 115

Dec 2007 thru Jan 2008
The car is taken off the road and the teardown begins…
This was its home for the winter. The garage with a fireplace, but not electricity

Pulled the motor, gas tank, and brake lines.

Removed the dash and anything and everything behind it (SRS, Heater core, wiring, etc.

Stripped the sound dampening, insulation, etc.

Wire tuck in the engine bay and relocated the fuse box and ABS.

johnls fab’d up the battery bracket (in home)

Miscellaneous wiring and fabricating done at work (sponsored by CC)

Feb – Mar 2008
The parts are all in and the build begins!!!
Setup:
Block-Ls/Vtec 85mm Darton sleeves, Ls crank, Manely Rods, Wiseco Pistons
Head- Ferrea valvetrain , turbo cams, full-race cam gears, Edlebrock IM/TB
Turbo-Full-race ramhorn, BW366 turbo, 3”piping, AFI intercooler, Tial BOV/Wastegate, 3” exhaust
Electronics-S300, FJO injector driver, NLR-500, etc.
Fuel- A1000 pump, A FPR, 1600cc injectors

Drop the motor in w/ Hasport solid mounts

Satellite battery terminals with volt gauge

The dash and carpet is reinstalled and the wiring for the electronics begins

At work again and install the diffusers on the bumper

May-??2008
Our job is done so it is time to drop it off at the one and only Tempest Racing
Joe gets this piece of junk and turns it into something that looks like a car.

Joe fabricated everything for the car from piping to the fuel pump bracket. He also did a lot of wiring.
He tuned the car using S300, NLR, and Q16. It made 700hp @ 3?psi

Sept-Present
we pick the car back up and prep the car for 2008 MIR WCF
Omni Drag coilovers and skunk2 LCA

Battery cut off switch and solenoid

Full-Race Traction bar

Dzus fasteners for the front bumper

The final product on the trailer

Can’t forget the toe vehicle (The Dooky)

November 9, 2008 MIR WCF

I made 3 passes the whole day and all three were on ~600hp. - 1st 12.7 with 3.1 60ft - 2nd 11.4@130
- 3rd pass 10.68 @ 134 with 1.63 60ft. NEW PERSONAL BEST

Thanks for viewing. Now it's time to get ready for next year

cool write up matt! glad to see you getting the car down the track the way it should be now. all of our mouths dropped when you ran your 10 second pass as it seemed you had never made a clean pass before that one.

cool part is we can still turn the boost up another 15lbs or so! when you get a chance email me the log from your good pass

I love it! This is the way a thread should be done. If we can all try to follow the example or try to do the same thing, the sport would be a lot better and a lot more interesting. I wanted to say “Great Job” and “Keep it up!” You are doing a hell of a job.

Thanks everyone for the inspiring comments. This was suppose to be my last race this year, but when Joe told me i was off the gas for 1.6 sec. I really want to go back and turn the boost up.

Nice write up about your build. Nice to see the four doors out there. Good luck to you in the in the up coming seasons. Maybe since your all excited to bring it out again you can stop by Honda day at atco on the 23? I see that you stripped it down to nothing, what did it weigh in at?
