Default broken spark plug

Last couple of days my car has been acting funny. First I thought it was cold weather, then possibly a shitty tank of gas but today the car absolutely was bucking at low rpm launches from the light.

Misfire? Thats what I was thinking but before going to Topeka in September (7000 km ago) I changed the cap, rotor, NGK wires and NGK plugs. I thought I would take a look just in case....

What I found was the number 1( I think-near distributor)) spark plug had the electrode broken off.
The part of the elbow that gets zapped from the tip is no longer there, just a bit paralell to the tip.
Obviously I know I need to replace them but I have 2 questions,

Do you think that tiny piece of metal has done significant damage to the valves or cylinder? I guess a leak down will tell me for sure, or maybe I got lucky?

What in the world could cause this?

I have 300,000km on this car, 100,000km on this rebuild and I change plugs every 20,000kms...yeah thats a lot of plugs. This is the first time I see this.

Comments??

Thanks John.
I will do the diagnostic later this month.

I am really curious as to how a brand new plug could fail like that.

Last time I saw this happen with a spark plug to someone on here, they had blown a hole through a valve...

I had an NGK plug in cylinder 3 do the same thing to me on summit main, car fell flat on its face. I expected the worst but the scope didn't show anything and after putting new plugs in the car ran fine.

If I ever run across you again I'm going to punch a hole thru your head.
