02 Accord ULEV Motor EGR and Compression questions?
A friend of a friend is having problems with his 02 Automatic ULEV Accord. He is having idle and acceleration problems. Said he did a compression test and #1 and #4 were 200, and #2 was 75, and #3 was 110.....I don't think he performed the test right......Anyhow......
His car will idle fine, but under acceleration only rev to 4K.....Someone told him to take the head off and have it checked.....He did, machine shop said #2 had a burnt valve...They replaced the valve and he slapped the head back on.....Same problem...Will not rev over 4K....
So...my question---Can this be EGR related? Does the EGR route or pull from the #2 cylinder on these accords? Has anyone run into this problem before?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, this is his wifes only means of transportation...I need to get him up and running ASAP.....Thanks,

The EGR port feeds into the intake just behind the throttle body. pic below.
any trouble with the EGR system would affect all cylinders.
Also if there is a trouble code stored the REV will be limited.

Gotcha. Thanks for that pic...That will help with explaining to the owner and cleaning if I decide to. I did not know that any trouble code would hinder the rev rpm's....Good info
I am 75% sure it is just under load. He had complained about feeling the car misfire and run rough. That's when someone advised him to take the head off.
I would just like to know why it would burn a valve....Maybe it has done it AGAIN?
P.S. Since the new valve was put in, it was driven for 2 weeks, then same exact problem came back with not being able to REV over 4K.

It may be that the VTEC portion of your engine management system is not functioning.
It would normally set a code (like P1259), but you make no mention.
Perhaps the actuator is malfunctioning and lying to the ECM.
A scan may well give up a code.

I also found out today that the car originally had codes for all cylinders random misfires.....Any idea as to why that would happen?

Bad Ignition Wires, Distributor cap / Rotor and or Ignitor (ingition Module) could cause the random misfire.
Disconnecting the battery will clear the codes (sorry), but a 15 - 20 mile roadtest may be enough to reset one and record an event in the history buffer
Next time, pull the fuse.
