Default Truth about intakes?

I have an 08 SI sedan and am deciding what intake system to buy. I've read all the threads and still am not sure. It seems like the stock Honda system is quite good and maybe a simple K&N drop in filter would be sufficient. I live in Calif. so a CARB legal system is a must. The Police have become very good at checking almost everything and fix it tickets are almost assured with non-CARB legal parts.

I would appreciate any opinions about this beat to death queston.

Thanks,

K&N would be a subtle addition, but don't expect any real power gains.

Despite what other people might say....Short Ram Intakes and Cold Air Intakes are almost identical in terms of power gains.

I'd go with the revised AEM CAI, not only is it carb exempt but comes with a MAF housing insert with vanes for proper A/F ratios and includes an upper radiator hose that will clear the intake. Additionally the elbow that connects to the TB is around 120-140 degree bend where Injen is right at 90 degree bend.

I agree with Kidnkorner. I have a AEM CAI on my SI and the CARB sticker for it right on the frame of the car in clear sight. No problems with police or smog centers. Performance gains are minimal, but they sure sound good.

i have a k&n drop in filter and love it. a lil more responsive and a slight change in tone, but like everyone says no real gains i'm sure.

airflow straightener for MAF is crucial IMO. i'd go with a short ram with that, if that is available. if not, a cold air with that is fine.
