Had my top cut and the seats stolen about a week ago. Well...one seat, I guess they got spooked before they took the other one. Apparently 4 other cars in the area also had the same thing done to them, because they're all in the same shop getting their tops fixed.
Anyways, two days later I get a check from insurance for $5000.
My question is...what's so bad about getting your seats stolen? I used to try to make money off of selling cars, flipping cars, fixing cars...and I always ended up losing. Getting my seat stolen was the best thing that happened to me. My top was about to start ripping anyways, so not only am I about get a new one, but I'll probably end up making a few thousand dollars off of this. Also, the shop was not doing so well because of the economy I guess. Now they're overloaded with 4 S2000s. I'm sure insurance company came out on top also, and the thief got a few hundred bucks out of it, too. Everybody's happy. I took my chick to dinner to celebrate. Maybe I should stop looking for a job and just start leaving my S2000 in random/ shady places...
Again, what's so bad about getting seats stolen? I can see if you have no insurance...but who doesn't?

plus the insurance company will slowly recoup that money from you in terms of increased future premiums and possible higher excess.
Also every time a claim is made against a particular car, it is logged and future insurances for that particular car will be higher according to how highly they rate them as a targeted car.
So for every set of seats stolen, it effects your own insurance very quickly and all of ours next time we renew.
Otherwise - good on you..

damn man at least you got some good luck with the insurance company. It was nice out today so I rode top down but it busted another seam in my top. Think I might "have my top slashed" so I can get another one. But dont they have a word for that...I think it's fraud...
I remember working in a collision body shop during high school....we had an S2000 come in (AP1)......At first it seemed like there was nothing..
As I got closer...low and behold...the top was slashed in an "x" formation and thieves managed to take e both seats and ripped out the gauge clusters...*sigh*
At least I got to drive that S2000 in the parking lot.
