Default Speedo cable drive removal?

I'm midway through converting my '88 crx DX auto to manual. When I pulled the auto, I just pulled the speedo cable out of the top of the trans. Now that the transmission is out, I'm trying to figure out how to remove the rest of the drive mechanism (that 1" diameter aluminum piece that slides into the hole on top of the trans). I've removed the bolt and retaining tab, but the piece wont slide out, rotate, or move.

Is there a trick to removing this part? I need to swap it over to my manual trans...

Nevermind, I was able to warm the trans housing lightly with a torch and that expanded it enough to release the part.
