Help with ZC swap
OK, so I'm right in the middle of my DOHC ZC swap, and I'm kind of stuck. I'm reusing my old tranny and flywheel, and I can't get the flywheel off the old motor. One of the flywheel bolts came out fairly easily, but the other 5 are stuck. So far I've tried PB Blaster with a wrench and a huge cheater bar, air tools, I've tried heating them up with a torch, and nothing is working. Those little phuggers are stuck like you wouldn't believe. Does anyone have any ideas that might help me get these guys out? I'm running out of time here and need to get my car back on the road. I really don't feel like pedaling my *** to work now that it's starting to get a little chilly out, and I don't feel like buying any more parts if I don't have to. Thanks for the help.
i havent had too much problems taking them off. how are you locking the engine?
i usually put two disposable bolts in the outer clutch plate spots and put a flat bar across and then lock it up to the engine with another tranny bolt in the engine case. no reason a good enough breaker bar and cheater bar wouldnt take it out after that.

I had a wrench with a piece of pipe over the handle on the crank pulley bolt so that I was essentially using the floor of my garage to get leverage, and then using a cheater bar over the handle of another wrench on the flywheel bolts, and couldn't get them to budge. I'm thinking someone probably did use locktite on them, and then torqued the hell out of them. If this is the case, what are my options? I've never used the stuff before, so I don't really have any idea how well it holds things in place (although I'm guessing it works pretty well given my current situation.)
Tyson,
do you have a pic of your method? I'm having trouble visualizing it, and I'm feeling too lazy to run out to the garage right now.

I remeber a guy that made a thread about putting lock tite on his bolts and this is why you dont do it lol
I always have used a good sized pair of vise grips attach them to the outter ring of the flywheel, turn the motor, until it stops on them and use a braker bar. sounds like the impact gun isnt big enough to breake them loose.

Yeah, the impact doesn't seem to be getting me anywhere, but then again, neither does anything else. I've considered just buying a new flywheel, but I don't want to if I really don't have to because I'm getting tired of spending money on it.

All I have ever needed was a wrench and a breaker bar. I had to soak em in PB about 20 times over night for a day or two but it finally worked.

i used it so my regular socket doesnt slip off the head of the bolt since its so thin.
i simply had extra flywheel bolts to use as well.
no need to get all wired up about it, just stating an option.

How is this relevant to the OP's question? Do like Tyson said and put a bar with some diposable bolts across the flywheel. One thing that I found out helps is to lightly tap the flywheel bolts with a hammer (being careful not to screw up the bolt head)

Problem solved.....just said ***** it and bought a flywheel off a 95 (I think) Civic for a couple bucks, complete with bolts. I messed with it for another hour or so last night, and another hour or so this morning, and it still wouldn't move.....called the junkyard to see if they had one, and got lucky. So now just about everything with the exception of dropping the motor in the car is done, and hopefully I'll have that done and the car back on the road by Friday. Thanks to everyone who chimed in with suggestions even though I wasn't able to get any of them to work. Hopefully the next time I do this I'll be able to put one of these ideas to work.
And to those of you who couldn't say anymore helpful than "don't do it, stay SOHC", shut up and get the hell out of my thread. kthxbai.
