i've did some searching and can't get a straight answer what are the pros and cons of moving the iat to say the intake itself on a d16z6. makes sense that it would read lower temps and such

There is nothing but postive things to say about relocating the IAT sensor. First off it reads correct intake air temperature, and stops the heat soak from the intake manifold ergo resulting in increased timing and fuel through your ECU. I can't remember the exact readings but anything over 150 deg retard timing by 5 deg and pulls fuel too. So relocating it to the intake pipe or the rubber coupling in my case was not difficult. All i did was remove the sensor, and rerapped the wires, plugged the hole, cut an x in my trottle body to intake rubber coupling and pushed the sensor in and held it in place with a couple of screws. So what if the screws and iat sensor disrupt airflow the resulting power makes up for it. I highly recommend this to anyone wanting free power. Goodluck my friend its not hard at all.

 

Or you could remove some of the water sources on the IM, which would give you an actual decrease in IAT and a real gain in power
