jdm headlights, with hid or hir?
i want to buy a jdm blackhousing headlights for my ej, but i want to put like a purplish lights on it so prolly around 13000k?
as from reading some things here, i need a projector headlights to be able to put hid's "legally". and hids sounds like a little more hard to install than the hir because of the wiring.
is there an hir that has purplish color that doesn't need extra wirings?
i'm a total noob on this kind of things.
thanks.

1st: purplish lights, you can't see anything, cause purple is close to violet, and the human eye isn't sensitive to violet.
2nd: hir doesn't exist in H4 form.. only in 9011/2, these can be modified to 9005/6
3rd: HID's aren't legal in any housing that wasn't designed for them
HOWEVER, retrofitting HID projectors into housings that didn't have projectors or have halogen projectors, helps reduce glare.

werd.... and i would doubt you could find colored HIR bulbs either since they cater to such a small section most of them are OEM made by GE but there are other companies that either reproduce or resell the GE ones. but its mainly stock halogen bulb with increased output compared to 9005/9006
Additionally, do not use JDM headlamps in the US or other countries where traffic drives on the right hand side. Headlamps have a "dip" to their beam pattern, which is used to illuminate the side of the road and for overhead sign visibility. Next time you are parked next to a wall, check out the beam pattern of your headlamps.
In the US the dip looks like this:
_____/
In Japan, the UK, and other left hand traffic countries, the dip is now like this:
\_____
If you use JDM headlamps in the US you are glaring every single driver on the road as the dip is now facing traffic.
If you want black housing headlamps for aesthetics, just bake the lens off US lamps and paint the housing.

hid's are expensive, too much wiring, and as they're talkin on other threads, it makes glare w/o projectors. i'm not sure what i'm really talkin about.
i haven't read about retrofitting yet.
i need some help with this one, i might as well get HID's when i get enough money.
is that the best way to go if i want a white/blue or whatever light instead of the stock yellow?
so i need the HID kit, what else do i need to get?
and how to retrofit?

hid kits arent that expensive.... ranging from $80 and up for the chinese kits and about double that for the german kits
im not sure what you mean by too much wiring either... ballasts just need 2 wires from your stock harness and they make adapters so you dont even have to splice anything.
some people recommend getting a relay harness kit for HIDs to draw power directly from the battery instead of the stock harness but thats up to you.
and yes... HID kits are in the illegal realm when you put them in halogen headlights. thats why many resellers state that they are for off-road / show use only. because even selling them is deemed illegal according to the NHTSA.
the best is doing projector retrofits but its definitely not for the beginner...
alot of your research can be done at http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/
their university section will answer alot of your questions
and you can also go here:

but if money is tight then projector retrofits tend to cost more but the performance is still night and day even compared to a HID kit.
also another problem with HID kits is, if you use a single xenon (meaning one hid bulb) to replace your stock 9003/H4 you'll lose high beam function...
a solution to that is you can get bi-xenon hid kits that give you a high beam function but each one has their inherent downsides.
if you go with projectors they have bi-xenon projectors... for instance TL (acura), G35, FX35/45 (infiniti), E55 (mercedes & maxima), RS6 (audi)... and theres probably a couple more im missing but those are generally the most popular ones.
and the wiring for projectors is only needed if you have bi-xenon projectors for the high beam shield solenoid. not that hard, generally it just needs 2 wires.
the only thing you would need is a circuit that will keep the low beam on when the high beam is switched on.

just read something about projector retrofitting and yea, it sounds and looks really hard and will take too much time.
are there any other lights/bulbs or way that i can use to get white instead of yellow except hids or is that my only choice?

the osram looks whiter, i think i'm gonna get that one and upgrade to HIDs later on.
i do a lot of night driving thats why i need a good light.
thanks for all the help guys, i'll deff be back for hid time!

1) Stop caring about the color of the light.
2) Stop caring how bright the bulb is.
What you need to care about is how well the optics of you headlamp spread what light is emitted across the ground. You could have 10,000 lumens, and a terrible spread, and still be unable to see very well.
If you truly care about night vision, then do it correctly and retrofit a good set of HID projectors. This will give you the best distribution of light on the ground, and help night vision the most. Anything else won't be as beneficial, and potentially detrimental.
