Python alarm transmitter problems
I have a Python 881XP with only 1 transmitter and it doesn't work anymore. I let a friend borrow the car, he killed the battery and spent an hour or so trying to figure it out before I could get there. Backup battery kept the alarm working (at least the LED continued to blink the whole time), but the alarm didn't activate until we were jump-starting. I'm thinking the backup battery drained nearly completely and that is why it didn't activate until after we got some power to the battery. Throughout all of this, the transmitter on my keychain would not communicate with the alarm, giving the same response as if it were out of range. I came to find out that while my friend stood next to my car waiting, somebody else came up to a nearby car and deactivated their alarm, at which point (hopefully coincidentally) my transmitter vibrated as if it was receiving a signal. I ended up having to use the valet button to put the alarm in valet mode for now, but at least it runs.
After all of that, I am not sure what I can do to fix this. I did the install months ago and am confident that I didn't screw anything up...I've had no other problems with it, but I don't know whats up.
Does anybody have a solution or suggestion for me?
My next step is to call Directed when I'm off work.
Thanks

I checked page 14 of my manual, but it didn't really help me - this section does give programming instructions, but I can't connect it to my situation...I've been trying pressing the lock button hoping it will come back to the right code (or whatever), but still no luck.
Any more suggestions?

If it recieved a signal from another car it probably jumped to a different code. They are set up for code hopping so it will never stay on the same code therefore helping stop theft. You will have to reprogram the remote to your alarm most likely.
turn your key to the on postition
hit the valet button one and let it go
hit the button again and hold it this time.
While holding the valet button still hit the lock button on the remote
you should hear a chirp and the a longer siren noise and it should be fully programmed.
Im sure you knew that if you looked at the manual but that is what you are going to have to do to get the remote to transmit to the alarm now.
hopefully you didn't fry the brain though because that is sometimes possible when jumping car but not very often.
If so though all DEI products have a lifetime warranty so just contact them.

I followed your suggestion lsvtecturbosol, but it didn't work. I think the problem with this was that the brain doesn't sense the transmitter, so it doesn't recognize when I press the lock button. Maybe I'm wrong, so I'll explain what I did : opened the door, turned the key to ignition, pressed the button once, and then again but held it (heard the beep from the siren) and pressed the lock button. Without the door open, I get no response from pressing the valet button. Anyhow, the transmitter vibrated three times letting me know it was still "out of range." Thanks for the suggestion, I do appreciate the help. If anybody has any other idea, please let me know because I am out of ideas. I'm trying to find out about my warranty - I think the transmitters only have one year, but I fall within that anyways - I just can't get in contact with Tech Support at Directed (I haven't gotten past being on hold with them). Again, thanks for your suggestions, but please keep them coming...
Ok there is only one problem that I saw that could have caused the problem and I am glad you were so clear what you did.
The door does have to stay open the entire time you are trying to program the remote.
Make sure you are still holding the valet button when you push the lock button also.
If that doesn't work there is definately something wrong with either the brain or the remote but I can't imagine the remote to go bad at the exact time that you jumped the car. It is possible but unlikely. If you were here I have 3 remotes I could try before you went any further. I hope you get this taken care of. Sorry if what I've told you didn't work .

I tried again to sync up the transmitter with the above method, but still haven't been successful. My alarm still works properly, so I'm hoping that the transmitter somehow got synced up to the other car's alarm (as explained in the original post), but I guess I'll find out soon. The dealer I used is waiting on their local Directed expert to try and help, but if he can't, then I was told I'm still covered and will receive a new transmitter. Again, thanks for your help - I do appreciate it, and if you have any new ideas that might help, I'd like to hear them.
Any luck with this? I'm having the same exact problem with my car and a Python 990. Thing is, I have THREE backup remotes, two at home and one at my parents home, and none of them can control the alarm. I tried reprogramming the alarm to the remotes, but all the remotes give me is the out of range beep. I also tried swapping out my antenna.
The three beeps from any viper alarm means out of range. But that also means that if its broken is will beep three times. I had the same problem, I bought a new remote and problem solved.
