Looking for Snow Tire Recommendations for 2006 Civic LX Sedan
I bought this car used in the middle of summer (2008) so this is the first winter (for me) with this car. I'm looking for recommendations for snow tires. I live in the Northeast (Rochester, NY). The factory size tire size is P205/55R16. I've also heard something about sizing a winter tire smaller (?) for better traction. Has anyone heard of this before? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Besides the thread suggested, I'll offer my opinions.
A wider footprint will float more on top of the snow than a narrow one, so the theory is you get better traction with the narrow tire. Of course, you need to keep the overall circumference as near to stock as possible.
You probably intend on doing so, but get four snow tires, not just two. I have been using Nokiian (sp?) Hakapaliitta (sp?) mounted on their own rims for quite some time now. When I did my research some years back, Blizzaks had the advantege in traction tests at first but lost that advantage to the Nokiians after one season's use. The sidewalls are quite soft and (very noticeable handling change) but I am still very pleased with their performace after 4 seasons now.
