Default Electrical Load Detector Question

If this goes bad (how does it go bad exactly) could this prevent a car from starting and burning up distributors ?

the eld cicuit can burn up alternators.. if it keeps the alternator at full field when it is not necessary it can overheat... but you have to check the eld circuit at the pcm ...
