k20 to s2k trans
I have a project in mind and am doing some research. I want to build a rwd honda but not an s2k. I am too tall for one. More than likely my base car will be an ek. My question is, will a K20 engine bolt onto an s2k trans. If not is there a way it can be done? I don't know much about s2ks or k series engines but I hope to gain a lot of knowledge once I get the project going. My last project was a b18c swap into an ek its time for a change.
they do not bolt up. And there isnt much you can do to make them bolt up withought doing some seriouse fabing to the bellhousing. If your going to do through the trouble of doing this sort of build why dont you just throw a k20 with the k20 trans in the back and make the ek a midengine rwd car??????????????
Do you know if the input shafts on both of those trans are the same? If they are I can fab an adapter plate. I see it done all the time between ford/chevy engines and trans.
why would you use an RSX tranny? i mean considering that you're going with a RWD layout through the firewall, whats a few more cuts on the chassis right? just build an s2k tranny, custom prop shaft, and the rear of an s2k with whatever diff you want. honestly i think it'd be simpler to take off the rear bumpers, fenders, doors, rear qtr panels, and weld on the EK panels.
inlinepro has made an adapter plate so they could use an f20c motor with a k-series transmission in a fwd car. i dont see why they couldnt do it the other way around... you will just need to figure out how you're going to mount it

as far as he swap is concerned... its not worth it. the f20c is an amazing engine, and you can get just about as much power out of one n/a as you could with a k-series. and as far as boost is concerned... they are known for holding 500whp +/- with a stock bottom end

you mean long ways? In that case the k20 would fit if it was mounted that way either.

I've tried fitting in many small cars. Being 6'4" doesn't work too well. I'd have to sit on the floorboard to be able to see through the windshield and not above it. As to why not just drop in the the F20 with the s2k trans.... well that would be no fun. How many rwd k20 6 speed civics do you know of? I know there is a lot of fab work involved but im more than up for the challenge. I have no problem shaping metal.
I like the idea of machining a new shaft that will mount to the k20 crank and then just using the s2k rear end. I was actually thinking about that last night after my post. Depending on how I mount the trans to the engine I may have to make it slightly longer to make up for an adapter plate. Does anyone know if the trans is a two piece, (can you remove the bell housing?) Can the s2k diff be re-geared?
As far as boost goes i've never been a fan. I like the sound and I like the power they can make but i'd rather have an all motor car.

still think it would be a better option than going k20 motor with f20/22 trans.
and yes the rear can be regeared

I bet you can! This thread seems rather pointless. Why are you against running the the entire F20C engine and trans? I mean, what is the point of mix and matching tranny's?
<< Does not believe this project will ever happen. So far from cost effective it's not even funny.

OP. why not just get another rwd car and drop the s2000 motor in it?
btw my friend is 6'5 250lbs and fits fine in my s2000, youll be fine with a lowered seat rail.

No smartass, you can't fit a F20/22 AND an F series tranny into a civic and have it be PRACTICAL. Obiviously, with enough time, money, and skill...you can put ANYTHING into ANYTHING. That's beyond the point. IT'S TOO LONG. You can however fit an F20/22 and a K series Tranny into a civic. For obvious reasons.
Although, I'm sure you can hack the **** out of the car for no apparent reason if you wanted to...
and I have never seen an LS1 swapped civic...please show me this.
Edit: Saw the LS1 civic....so much fab work...it's not even funny. Engine was sitting halfway through the firewall.

No, I know you can! Let me rephrase what I said. You can't fit a F20/22 in to a civic mounted to a F-series tranny, unless you want to hack the everloving **** out of the car. And at that point, why not put something much more powerful in there?

Agreed. And on second thought...OP, you're going to have a HELL of a time fitting a F-series tranny into a civic. The K-series tranny- K-series motor is a MUCH better option.

This dude wants to make a FR Civic, using Honda driveline components. What other Honda tranny is he going to use?
A 5 speed AWD CRV tranny?

There is no other tranny to use. If he want's a FR using HONDA components...that's his only option. So I think that something has to change. Anything is do-able...but personally....It would never be worth it to do it that way, no way, no how.
If he want's to build a RWD honda...he's probally got a much better shot with an accord...

It's obvious a good amount of fabrication is going to be needed. An entire drive shaft tunnel will need built and the lower rear firewall cut out. This is the case with any FWD to RWD conversion. It's all been done before.
