Is ITR theft bad in San Diego?
Uh yeah, it's pretty bad there. A lot of stolen ITRs end up in Mexico from there. Good luck getting your shell back
Garage it or lose it.

I'm in Chicago right now.
Well Great lake IL. bout 40 min north of chicago.
I'll probably take with me to San Diego
but I'll just keep it on base.
Like I do here in IL.

Depends on where you live in Cali. I daily drove my 98 for almost two years to school and work without an alarm and I never had a problem. Did I mention that I was a sub-contractor for a movie theater which I was at once a week.
As long as you are smart about how and where you drive I don't see any problem owning a ITR in CA. When I had to work at the theaters I wouldn't work pass 10 pm because that is when most of the cars where stolen from there. At school I parked off campus so it looked like I lived where is was parked instead of parking on campus and being a sitting duck. Also not driving like a ricer and bring attention to yourself can help.

Just FYI, I have read previous posts about cars (i'd have to search to confirm if it was an R) being stolen while on base. This isn't a fear based tactic, just an fyi. I personally wouldn't do it. That's me, and I'm paranoid...but I'v never had a car stolen.
An H-T'er's car was stolen while at NAS North Island while he was deployed. Bases aren't that much safer. I mean, look how many times the Burger King INSIDE Camp Pendleton was robbed! (at least three times in 2008!)
At the bare minimum you should have a good car alarm, a Club or similar device, an Autolock or similar device, kill switch, Driveway Patrol, and a Trunk Monkey.
Get a garage if you can. Get some cameras...maybe some barracudas or heat seeking missiles.
Be vigilant and have common sense. Stay away from the Fashion Valley or Mission Valley malls.

That was me with my old Civic.
YES, just not ITR theft but all sorts of cars. I am stationed now at NAB and a Integra was just stolen last month.

After reading about all the Chicago thefts, I'd say that Illinois is probably on top...but California is a close second. Of course, it depends on where you live. There are some parts of CA that I would feel ok driving an ITR in, but there are many more places where I honestly wouldn't feel comfortable leaving it in any public parking lot for more than a minute or two.
if someone wants your car really badly then they will get it even if it means following u for hours until they feel it is the best time to make a move the only way i would feel comfortable driving a real type r is if it was being watched by 7 marines and a really good sniper
On top of everything else that people have said. If you were going to park it for any length of time I would take the ECM and Main relays with you. But then like everyone else here I am paranoid!
Hey bro
Im in the Navy down in SD and ive parked my PY ITR on base for short periods and its been ok. Im on a lot smaller base where most everyone knows each other and that the car is mine.
On the bigger bases its not a good idea, alot of jealous people who know when you'll be out floating around and your caR is a sitting duck. Navy people have been know to steal... Be carefull bro

I think it just depends who you encounter. An ITR period, is an eye catching car to thieves. I've been told by some kids, man, ITRs ain't ****, but I know in their hearts that, if they had the chance to get my ****, they would in a heartbeat!

The cities where the RATE of auto theft is the worst tend to be on the ocean and along national borders, both of which make it easy to take a stolen car out of the country. Here are the ten cities with the worst rate of auto theft (ref):
1 Las Vegas/Paradise, Nev.
2 Stockton, Calif.
3 Visalia/Porterville, Calif.
4 Phoenix/Mesa/Scottsdale, Ariz.
5 Modesto, Calif.
6 Seattle/Tacoma/Bellevue, Wash.
7 Sacramento/Arden-Arcade/Roseville, Calif.
8 Fresno, Calif.
9 Yakima, Wash.
