i currently have a pdx 4.150 and want to add a dedicated mono sub amp....
i was considering the pdx 1.1000 because i thought i'd be able to have it hidden (yet easily accessible) like my other pdx-

i don't think it will be possible, so at this point, i figure it might be worth saving major cash and just using the v-power M1000. the size difference is immense, but i think it matters not because i'll have to have whatever amp i choose on the back of this box anyway-

is there a reason for me not to just go with the v-power amp? yes, into my series-wired DVC (2ohm per coil, 4ohm total) sub the v-power will only be 600W rms vs. the PDX at 1000, but really...600w rms vs. the two bridged channels of my 4.150 should be sufficient, no?
ideally, i could even run the big dog v-power M2000 (1500Wx1 rms @ 4ohm) and still save significant cash, but 1500W is a little much for my lone 12.

is it a bit weird, that i knew it was a mazda3 because of the slight shot of the tail light?
also with that big of a box, it really doesn't matter, how big the amp is...

I prefer the pdx 600.1 over the 1000. I have seen a handfull of 1000s come back due to failure, mainly due to lack of current/voltage from the vehicle they are installed in. If you dont plan on beefing up the factory charging system, go with the smaller pdx 600, and a efficient sub and enclosure design.

you have a point there. with only the rear two channels bridged of that 4.150, the perfect design of this box makes for some very impressive bass. that said, i just want to give it something closer to what it uses to really shine. i used winisd pro to really assure that this box would give me the best useable curve.
kirk, interesting info. makes sense i guess, voltage goes down, current goes up? would a decently sized stiffening cap help the cause if i went with the 1.1000?
all of that said, i looked at my receipt today and it says it's a DVC 4ohm type r. that means i could possibly wire it for a 2ohm load if this woofer is indeed that, which means if i got the VERY affordable v-power m500, at 2ohms id be right at my rms rating for the sub. would it be worth it over what i have now? it's SO much cheaper than the pdx 1.600 (or the 1.1000 obviously), though i'm sure it's not nearly as nice, it's gotta be nice, no?

I have to agree with KRock459 go with the PDX-1.600, a PDX-1.1000, regardless of any problems it may have, or cars ability to properly power it] is overkill at 1x1000W RMS into a 500W continuous speaker.
The MRP-M500 although a good amp and would do the job the PDX-1.600s extra 100W will give you that dynamic headroom the MRP-M500 can't, it's always better to be a little over-powered.
A 1 farad cap on the sub amp will take the strain off the alt. but the only way to increase current is to upgrade the alt. and assuming you go with the PDX-1.600 along with the PDX-4.150 your looking at 1200W RMS, [probably closer to 900W RMS @12.5V] I always recommend an alt. upgrade with 500W RMS or higher.
Yes you can get away without a bigger alt. at 500W or 900W even 1200W but if you want the best possible performance out of the audio system, at all SPL levels the amps need the proper amount of current, the same applies to the car.
Keep in mind a 50% efficient amp system capable of 1200W RMS needs about 170A to make that 1200W, what size is your alt.

yeah, it's a 90 amp alt. i'm going to get an upgraded one before i move forward, and the amp i'm gonna roll with will be the 1.600.
now i have to find a viable alternator option....i'll check with ohio generator and iraggi
thanks all.

Also, although the V power amps are pretty good, there is more then a "some minor" differences, side by side, everything else being the same the PDX amps are much better sounding, but hey, that's IMO.

The M1000 is 600 watts RMS @ 4 ohms (and his sub can be wired @ 4 ohm) I'll admit that the PDX's are better amps than the V-Power models (from personal experience) but $100 is $100.
I guess I was going off OP's input in regards to saving some funds on the purchase price.
If the $100 doesn't really matter, then, yes, I have to agree that he should get the PDX.

that probably stems from me for the past couple months believing that my woofer was a 2ohm dvc wired in series. i mentioned that is the woofer i have, but yesterday i looked at my reciept and it's actually a 4ohm dvc. he probably didn't pick up on that second part....

Looked right past it. My bad!

the best buy i work at has had the pdx amps on clearance. you may want to check it out at your local store. im not 100% but i think they were around $329.00 maybe. i know my store still has like 3 of the 600 watt models left.
