Default Head unit..mp3..usb...dvd... questions.

My car has a factory Monsoon sound system in it, 6 disc changer in the trunk.

I want to be able to get more play time without having to change those damn discs.

Im not sure how this all works, maybe some of you can fill in some of these...

1) If i replace the head unit with something that is capable of mp3 and/or wma playback, will that still work with the changer? As in, can the changer read that, or does that have no relevancy and all relys on the head unit.

2) If i get a unit that has a usb plug on it, will that power a usb hard drive. Like a sata 2.5'' drive in an external enclosure, or would i need like a lighter power adapter?

3) Are there any units out there that will read mp3s off a dvd?

Also, im sure some of you have already ventured into this stuff, have any feedback to what seems to work best, likes dislikes about different setups like this.

Thanks!

1 aftermarket hu most likly wont work with the changer.
2 ive always been curious about this also. but i never tried it
3 havent seen any.. closest ive come to it is using a indash tv screen with a seperate ebay special dvd player that fits into a din. those do read dvds filled with mp3s (around 900 mp3s)
