Default 09 SI Sedan interior light question

I bought an 09 SI sedan yesterday.

I've looked in the owners manual and can't find an answer for this. What is the little amber light up by the sunroof controls for?

It does look like a mic for navi (which I didn't get) up there. I was just making sure it wasn't something I should know about.

Regardless if its navi or not, its the same piece.
Only difference is the si's vs the ex's coloring.

The mic gets mounted on the OTHER side.... to the same piece.

Nothing to even do with the ambient light.

If one notices, in a very dark environment, it shines directly onto the shifter.

No more 92+ for you Sean?

its for the lights that come on when you open your door. either they're on or they arent.

I've got to do a handful of things to the hatch to get it ready for sale. If any of you want it as is, it's going cheap.

it has nothing to do with the door being open.

if i'm familiar with what you're describing, I had this in my Audi. They shine down towards the shifter. Apparently it's for a quick hands-free light source if you need to light something up to read it for a second without messing with controls.

just like bimmers have the amber lighting...in my friends 335i i asked the same question because there were these tiny amber lights in the front (aiming down towards shifter) and in the back (aiming down toward the center console thing)

It is commonly known as a map light. But who uses maps. Take all left turns and you will find your way back.
