Turbo my GSR or buy new WRX? Help Decide.
First off I apologize if this is in the wrong forum, feel free to move if it is..
So I got to thinking today as I was having my car appraised, should I drop the 5k or so to turbo my car or sell my baby and finance a brand spankin new WRX (rally blue of course) through a dealership. Here's my arguments:
For GSR:
*Best looking car in my city, not to toot my own horn, but *beep beep*, people stare wherever I go.
*Turbo: 235+whp, mid 13's on street tires.
*Its a Honda, I can work on it and do most stuff myself.
*One of only 2-3 aftermarket turbo'd car in my city of 50,000.
For WRX:
*Fast stock, 13.9-14.3 stock. Consistant high 13's w/ removed exhaust.
*AWD...nuff said.
*Warranty
*Sedan=cheap insurance
*Sweetest interior I've seen yet, stock momo steering wheel/shift ****.
*Brand new car.
I'm kinda torn here, so I'm going to test drive one tonight- I have a feeling I'll probably fall in love w/ the Subaru but I do love my car as well. Any opinions from you guys?

i love my gsr...but if i had the cash to get a WRX i would. You have an engine designed for turbo, brand new (new car smelll, soooo worth it
) and with the WRX you can drag, auto-x or rally.

Totally off topic, but that's a pretty good time you have there. Full interior? Did you advance your timing at all?
Timing is at 18 Degrees
Removed back seats (pointless=like 5 pounds)
Removed Passenger seat (very good idea, heavy as hell IMO)
Removed Front Passenger Fog Light (air filter is right there)
Intake/Header/Exhaust/Test Pipe/AEM Pulleys
Launced at 5k, held a spin around 6k, gripped still well into VTEC.
I know that would've been an easy 14.78-14.81. I hit the brakes well before the finish line.
So....anyway. What should I do guys?
WRX: takes speed bumps like a champ. Capable of low 12's/high 11's on street tires on full interior with only about $4k invested. New car. New project. 4-doors. AWD. Lots of fun! Great for rally, top speed runs, canyon runs, etc. Bad for autoX or road racing or circuit racing.
Turbo your car: mid 13's on street tires... and thats all. good for autoX, road racing, circuit racing, canyon runs, etc. you already have money invested, so you dont have to start off buying a completely new car. better gas mileage. One of the kings of rice. (cops & ricers will constanly harass you)
Back in the day i decided to supercharge my car over buying a Subaru Impreza 2.5RS... thats cuz the 2.5RS is slow. If they had the WRX out at the time, then it wouldnt even be a hard decision at all. I say WRX. (if you got the money)

depends on how much you want to replace the wrx tranny, honda trannies have been capable of holding the power you want.
I"ve seen a couple WRXs at the local autox, they don't dominate as everyone seems to believe. It could be just the driver, but the car seems to roll a lil too much during the sharp corners. But they are a nice car, and the interior is
Guess it all comes down to what you want to do with your car.
Working on a car that already has a turbo -> less headaches. If i had the money, i'll get the wrx, something new and different to play around with!

Well as far as money its like this...right now I only make like 12/hr 40 hours a week. If I add 4k to my car loan to turbo i'm looking at $310/mo. Whereas if I finance and put down $3k downpayment I'll only be paying like $325/mo for the brand new car WITH warranty. I'll make a profit on my car, import scene is getting huge in my dinky 50,000 pop town. I'm on my way to test drive a WRX now, talk to you guys in a few. Keep the opinions rollin...
actually. at about high 12s you need to replace the wrx tranny. I beleive its 330whp or something like that.
I'd go turbo gsr... the wrx is overrated imho. You can make a fast gsr turbo (mid 12s) for very cheap.

I think stegs and litlemumbler hit it right on the spot. Stegs you are so totally correct about the trannies. My friend has basic mods(Full exhaust and intake on his soobie) and he is already having tranny problems. Granted you do have a warrenty. But what happens when it runs out? Littlemumbler, you can not go wrong with the Evo VII. The 4G63 has been pruven for 12 years now. Available in all Turbo Eclipse's, the 4G63 has proven bullet proof to 28 lbs of pressure! More than most will ever run. Granted Mitsu has had their problems with the 7 bolt walking the crank out of the motor(which was mostly chryslers fault) the 4G63 is an awesome motor well suited to run what ever you put to it. Just look at John Sheppard running low 9's on stock block daily driver. Nuff said, go with the EVO VII.
i say get the wrx.. its got more potnetial off the lot.. the gsr is nice, because theres 9832459843792832 parts for it...

please dont argue with me about the WRX... i've loved them for a long time and i know quite a bit about them. you are partially right though... if you made 330whp, a new tranny would probably be necessary, but the car would easily run 10's.
haha nice to see one of my quotes made it to someones signature...
id go gsr... i think the wrx interior is kinda tacky like the teg interior better.... thats all personal preference though.. looks i like the teg too
performance and cost id say a wrx will get you faster quicker though....

Looks I love my Integra 10x better (now) I'm sure with a slight drop the WRX can look damn good too.
I drove 'er. It definately had a lot more pull thru 3rd gear. Shifted pretty smoothly. There's no way I'm paying $464/mo though, $25,000 and 6.9% APR (what a joke on a new car) I can get better financing through my bank. I think I might just see whta I can get for my Teg, if I can make a decent profit off of it for a down payment I might go w/ a scooby. Any other thoughts?
