30,000 Mile Service...Do It Myself?
Ok, I passed by Pohanka Acura just to see what the 30K service consists of and below is a pic of their checklist. The ones crossed out does not apply to the 30K service. They seem to do a lot of inspecting which I think can be done by a local mechanic for half the price. I would do all the inspections tasks but I have no idea what to look for. The only one that I would be concerned about is replacing my fuel filter. I haven't found a how-to article on how to do it.
-Does every dealer do the same checks/tasks for each of the service intervals?

replacing the fuel filter is a snap. if you are at all mechanically inclined then it should not be a problem at all, but the helms (if you have one) should help alot too, but not really needed to just swap out the fuel filter.
just do it yourself...i think the only thing that might throw a wrench are adjusting the valves. good luck and may the force be with you

take your time and use the right wrenches or tools and remove all your hoses and connectors its hella easier to remove the bracket off the fire wall first. i didnt see any diffrence when i replaced mine maybe in the long run!
I will post a how-to on this later in this thread.
[EDIT]
You shouldn't need to replace the fuel filter for a while though. I will also check with the Helms to compare replacement intervals.

This brings up a very interesting question:
Do you guys bring your car in service or just do it yourself?
I can't justisfy spending few hundred bucks on just "check" and "inspect" various parts. I am not very mechanical inclined, but I think I can do the check, inspect, replace engine oil stuff by myself with the helm manual.
Keep in mind those few hundred bucks are just on check, inspect stuff, but not on "fix" stuff (which will be extra).
The only way I think it is reasonable to bring the car in for service is for the invoice (better record, better resale value although I don't plan on selling in the near future. But **** happens, you know...)

do it all myself- I have seen how dealerships treat customer vehciles on thier short "test drives"... no thanks. Plus the parts cost so little, labor is free.

i cant justify going to the stealership, a waste of money.........fuel filter isnt all that hard, what else is included in the 30k service? valve adjustment might prove nerve racking, other than that plugs, wires, inspecting this and that is easy to do, save yourself the money
my friend works at Honda here in el cajon, and well....if only you guys knew some of the things they do....ontop of the jacked prices!!!!!

when u change the fuel filter: 2 things that f'ed me up
1) make sure to open the gas cap and pull the fuel pump fuse and let the car choke out...so then fuel doesnt spray in ur face when u take off the filter like it did to me and
2) when ur removing the bracket, wear mechanix gloves! so many people i've talked to have scraped the back of their hand or knuckle on the bracket trying to get it off haha

beware the "lube-job" ....
they spray white lithium grease all over the damn place haha

I'd say do it yourself....unless you can make more in the time spent doing it.
