Urgent! Need ECU help with an OBD1 H22a
I need to get my car running under OBD2.
I have a OBD1 JDM H22a. I'm trying to see if there
is an ECU that can control my engine well enough.
I had several people tell me that the 96 Prelude Vtec
ECU will work. But nobody has confirmed this 100%!
I have tested my engine with civic and accord ecu's
but they throw misfire codes because crank sensors
on the H22 are on the distributor not the oil pump.
Someone please help.
Thanks.

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/2168311 Just about anything you need to know is in there.
THIS DOES NOT HELP!
I already checked the FAQ and did not find my answer.
Yes I know that an option is to install a different oil pump with
the CKP sensor.
BUT I did not find anything about using the 96 prelude OBD2 ecu
or any other ECU to do the trick.
AND This is what I have heard from several honda guys.
All I want is for someone to either confirm that the 96 ECU will
work or tell me if some other OBD2 ecu will work!
Thanks.

That's nice. But I have a working OBD1 ecu p28. (No IABs but whatever.)
I need a working OBD2 ecu. That will work with my car.
OBD2 is key.

What year Prelude do you have?
The 96 VTEC Prelude gets VERY tricky. VERY rare to find the VTEC ECU from it. 97+ ECUs are not directly compatible. I think the problem is the immobilizer. I'm sure others who know for sure will chime in.

I have an 6th gen Accord.
But I have a JDM H22a that is running OBD1 currently.
I have ALL the sensors I need for OBD2 installed.
And all I need is a compatible ECU.
Yes the 96 Vtech ECU is rare. And would cost me 700 bucks
if I buy it from majestic honda. That's why I would like somebody
who knows their stuff to tell me if it the ECU will run my engine
wihtout throwing codes.
(I tried Civic and Accord ecu's they don't like the distributor based CKP sensor.)
To put in a new oil pump is a real pain in the ***. That's why I hope
to get a compatible ECU.
