Default s light keep flashing, help please

hi, im new to this forum. I just bought my first honda. its a 90 accord. the s light stays flashing while driving. The rpm tach would not work but after a few minutes it work again. the speedomoter works fine. Can someone please help me out. i read some of the thread here and they all say check the tcm to see if its leaking or burnt out. my question is, there is a hole to see a red light in the tcm, is that red light suppose to turn on when the car is turn on? Because the red does not turn on when the car is on. Please help me anyone.

The TCM (Transmission Control Module) does not have any indicator LED's like your cable modem might.
The 'red' everyone refers to is a discoloration which occures on the PC Board under the two failed capacitors.
If the Speedo works, and you do NOT have an associated CEL (Check Engine Light); you can presume that both your VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) and the ECM are working correctly.
It's a pretty safe bet that you've a TCM which has failed (It's quite common)
They can be found on EBay or thru some of the Salvage Yards which have Internet Stores.

The Tachometer is a different issue.
If the vehicle runs ok, and you have no associated CEL, then the problem most likely lays with either the dash wiring (very rare unless futzed with) or the Tachometer itself.

thank you so much P_Adams... Is there a way i can check if its the TCM? Im a student so im afraid of going buy another TCM and that is not the problem. Oh, another thing, alot of guys say to check for the codes, so the only connector i see hanging from the passanger kick panel is a two male pin in a blue a cover, is that the connector everyone is talking about? because when i jump it and turn the car on, theres no flashing of the s light.

That should be the diagnostic port for the ECM (Engine Control Module).
Let me see what I can scare up.

Here's a link for retrieving the codes:

This may also help:

That may get you started

hey P_Adams. thank you again. this is whats going on, when i drive the car drives fine, shift into gears fine, but the "S" light blinks. Does that sound likea a TCM problem? because i check on ebay like you said, and i called one of the store up and asked them and they told me look at the resisters #R42,R41, but it looks ok. I still dont know how the connector for the trouble coding looks like. Ahhhhhh so frustrating.
