Default CBR929, blown sparkplug/cylinder head removal

on sunday my friends 929 started running on 3 and making a strange popping noise, we eventually discovered a loose (fully unscrewed) sparkplug. it feels like the threads are now mangled, is that the norm for a plug that blows out?
so, next question is, on the 929, can the cylinder head be removed with the engine still in the bike?
he doesnt have a manual and i didnt have a good look to see where the engine mounts are on the front.
on the 929, engine removal would mean the swingarm stays attached, or what??
this is a disgusting thing to happen to a bike, i've seen from a google search that at least 1 other person had the same problem on a 929, something mentioned about honda's only having 1/2" of thread on the heads as opposed to 3/4"?
makes me wanna check and re-torque my plugs!!
