YES. I had the same problem in my 92 CX with a 94 GSR swap. It wouldnt go anywhere above 3000 rpm, then I found an iguana under the accellerator pedal, so we removed the iguana and the car feels great now! damn iguanas!

does it idle smooth, but just won't rev past 3K?

 

its the knock sensor in the back of the motor ...its not hookrd up right ...mine did the same thing in my gsr when i swapped motors..just swap the two wires and it should work if not i dont know whats wrong

What code. You know the check engine light kinda hard to tell what is wrong if you don't have a map.

 

update: we tried a known good ecu..car will rev all the way to 8K. noticed however that VTEC was not activating. checked oil. oil was tar black and halfway up the dipstick. we drained about 3 1/2 quarts of the black crap out so that the oil level was just above full. haha..8 quarts is too much. i can't imagine anyone spending 3500 on a GSR swap and not changing the oil when they were done. oh well. we took the car out again and still no VTEC. the car is a VX and previously had a d16z6 w/ working vtec..my question is, do any wires need to be added to the harness in order for vtec to activate? i felt under the manifold and the knock sensor is plugged into something..what i don't know, but it's plugged in. i forgot to pull the hazard fuse and reset the ecu before we took it out..the bastards don't have a working bulb in the CEL on the cluster..how ghetto is that? any help is appreciated!

 

did you run the wire for the knock sensor?

8 quarts of oil...

 

id test the vtec solenoid.....try on another car or get a ohm meter.

id say replace the bulb and read the codes.
