Building my B20
hey guys,
just got my B20 engine today, and i want to build up my valve train and possibly upgrade my pistons,.... my overall objective is to have one hell of a DD with reliability in mind....
stage 1 or Stage 2 crower cams - Street/Strip package.(havent decided which)
Crower valvetrain-springs retainers
PNP on the head
Machine'd block- just a cleaning
RS B20 85mm TYPE R Race Spec Pistonshttp://www.raceaxis.com/85mm-t....html
Stock rods
Sound like a good setup?

im going for a reliable daily driver, ive heard LS-v are reliable but its all in the tune, and i dont wanna put al that pressure on the tune and have the constant worry about throwing a rod or something... i'm happy with my b18b i have now, so im sure ill be happy with the output of the stock B20 but with the upgrades ill be estatic lol... and im sure then ill be able to rev it up to 7-7,800 Rpm's which im happy with since i never get my B18b up to 6K now... plus one day it may be my full project car when i get another car
any other opinions on the exhaust option...???

You can contact Kteller to get a full 2.5" setup from the collector back and then run it into the muffler of your choice. I'm tempted to put an 07 Si axle back on my dc right now because its so quite, might restrict the 2L a bit but worth the lower dB's to me.
one other thing a friend mentioned today i never thought about was fuel... i want this to run off pump gas probly prememium.... and the other thing was do i have tro beef up my fuel system?? bigger injectors? fuel pump etc???
if your gunna rev it over the stock redlione get the arp rodbolts. Stock is the same as a ls which are the same as a single cam. also at least have the rods shotpeened or just go hbeam's. you shouldnt need bigger then stock injecters realisticly unless your planning over 190-200hp range. fuel pump i would do at least a walbro 190, maybe a 255. your compression is going to be up there from what zealautowerks is telling me. without the correct dome hieght of the pistons but im guessing 11.5-12.1? premium is going tobe a must and a goooood tune. sounds like a good setup tho.
u really don't need to get a tune i had a lsvtec that had 120k on block and 190k on my gsr head i put that on with blocks cams and everything else all stock no to still running to day taking it to 8.3k all day with 43k miles on it now so it is all up to the biulding on the engine
i just put together a b20b vtec engine all stock runs great take it to 8k it has 7k on it and runs like a champ u really don't need a tune

im gonna need a tune cause its not LS-v its staright B20, with cam upgrade and new pistons and valvetrain, all the requires a new tune cause the idle rasies from 500-700rpm to 1k-1200rpm and for other reasons... thanks guy for all your help soo far

a b20 head is the same as a 1.8 ls head.

About your exhaust, the custom piping for less than 100. Get 2.25inch. 2.5inch or bigger are better with turbo setup. And for the exhaust, they make replicas if u don't wanna spend the money on the real deal. Get the obx twin loop on ebay for about 100. A friend of mine has it on his 96 ex/si and it looks good and sounds great. Not too deep but kinda agressive.
my build budget with the tune is around $3000 the engine cost me =$850, all the cams and valvetrain, pistons should cost me around 1k, machine work havent looked into yet about cost, but i dont mind spending the money r the real stuff, plus its R&D is much better... so im alloting $900-$1200 for exhaust+header , ima get an ebay header for sure though...4-1 header... if i wanted to go rice 4-2 with two exhaust pipes...LMAO i wont though...off course NO CAT...lol
for the header its the same as the B18 correct ????
plus the money ill get for my B18b will cancel out the B20 base engine cost...

holy crap people are filling your thread up with miss information and bull ****... be cautious as to who you listen to... Get a nice header with a 2.5" collector and run 2.5" piping all the way back, even 3" if you dont mind the sound. time and time again this has been shown to free the exhaust flow and get you more power, look around and you find plenty of dynos proving this. Id agree that you want to look at 404's or 403's, the idles are fine for stock use. If you can, try and track down a P8R head for too, you'll get better results than from the P75 head. And they dude who said you dont need a tune is an idiot and obviously has no idea what he is talking about. I cant even understand the logic to that statement. there are a lot of good b20 build and general nonvtec build threads, search for some of those to get some good info. Good luck on your build
