spectre 7100 ems
any one have any thoughts on this??
The Spectre Performance eMS-Pro Engine Management System
$795.00
eMS-Pro -- DIYAutoTune.com part# sp-ems-7100
Based on the MegaSquirt-N-Spark Extra code, but taken 'to the next level' in nearly every way possible, the Spectre eMS-Pro is not really playing in the same court as some of our traditional more DIY oriented products. With roots firmly set in MegaSquirt technology, Spectre has stopped at nothing to add just about every 'extra' feature they could pack in the case. They started by changing the connector used to a heavy-duty Amp-Seal connector rated for automotive use, good move. Next they incorporated separate power regulators for the mission-critical and non-mission critical functions, keeping anything that could interfere with the running of your engine, but was absolutely critical, isolated and in its own safe little sandbox. Next Spectre added USB connectivity, you read that right.... the serial interface is still there if you want it, they simply ADDED USB, you can actually use both at the same time, potentially to allow datalogging (read only) on the serial, while tuning on the USB, or vice-versa.
On to the really cool features, how about:
0. External DIP switches to configure spark inputs and outputs
0. Boost Control
0. Nitrous Oxide Control
0. Knock Sensor Input (tunable to OEM sensors)
0. 2-step launch control
0. Shift Light output
0. Tachometer output
0. Cooling fan control
0. 4-bar MAP sensor for up to 44psi of BOOST!
0. Second barometric pressure sensor for automatic baro correction
0. Fast-idle warm up or closed loop idle control via a PWM idle valve
0. Support for high or low impedance injectors
0. Support for single crank angle sensor or dual crank/cam sensor ignition setups
0. And plenty more... these are just the highlights!
The eMS-Pro comes with mounting hardware, a CD-ROM with tuning software (currently MegaTune; Spectre's own SpecTune software is coming soon), USB cable, manual, wiring diagrams, and mounting hardware. Here's the basic specs for this unit.
0. Injector drivers: 2 bank batch fire
0. Works with high impedance (saturated) or low impedance (peak and hold) injectors
0. Maximum number of injectors: 16
0. 4 spark outputs (external ignition modules required)
0. On/off or PWM fast idle control
0. 4 bar onboard MAP sensor
Wiring harness sold separately.

Well, I work for the seller you've copied the description from.
I may not exactly be an unbiased source, but I can field questions about its capabilities. I know Spectre used it on an H22A powered Prelude road race car as a test mule.

but have the jdm 11:1 bottom end on the way and twm itbs so my s200 is not equal to an ems just looking at options for this. this is the first time i have heard of spectre and how do they compare to aem

Well, an S200 is still reasonably capable, but its lack of real time tuning will make getting it in tune a bit harder. The eMS-Pro will also allow you to install a coil on plug ignition if you want, something generally not possible with a Hondata.
The eMS-Pro is a less expensive standalone than the AEM, so it will not have quite the same size feature list. They are the same general idea, an ECU that you can tune in real time with a laptop, with a collection of programmable inputs and outputs. Some examples of the differences:
1. There is a plug and play AEM available; the eMS-Pro is universal so you will need to do some splicing to install it.
2. The AEM offers the option of built in wideband control; the Spectre needs an external controller.
3. The AEM is sequential; the Spectre is bank to bank but has a couple unusual tricks for injector staging on engines with more than one injector per cylinder.
4. You're more likely to find a tuner who is familiar with the AEM, though I have had some customers tell me they find the Spectre unit's tuning software easier to work with.

Before you knock an EMS, you should at least have the facts straight. First of all, he mentioned upgrading to the S300, but regardless, both the S200 and S300 are real time tuneable, I do it almost daily. Since I have not looked at your exact system, I will just say that if your user interface is anything like Megasquirt, he is definately better off with Hondata.

$200 Moates Ostrich.
$200 Moates Ostrich.
Thanks for clearing that up - I've seen the Ostrich used with other tuning solutions on Honda and GM products before. Hondata's website claimed it did not support real time tuning so I figured it was some kind of third party upgrade.
To answer one other question that's been raised: Yes, the tuning software with the 7100 is the same as the software used with Megasquirt.
