Default some tranny questions before i buy a car

its a 94 dx coupe with an ls/vtec

when i test drove the car i noticed that 2nd n 3rd grind alot,at the time he had a gsr trans in it then he offered to swap the tranny n put a b16 in. so the next day i cameover to drive the car after he swapped the tranny,2nd n 3rd still grind but not that much,2nd was REALLY hard to get into at times, so when i cameback and asked him why it was still happening he said that the tranny was rebuild n give it some time it should work itself out...

personally i dont know that much about hondas i just need a car to buy and this seemed like a good deal around the harrisburg pa area, i just want a simple reliable swap that i can take home

1994 honda civic dx b18a1/ b16a head, e,h,i clutch and flywheel upgrade
He wants 4300 for it

just wanted to a second opinion from people that know there stuff so please help if u can

could be a couple different things.. i wouldnt jump right to the conclusion that the tranny is bad.. during the swap they may have spilled some fluid out of the transmission causing it to not want to shift well.. to tell if it is this.. test drive the car again and cruise in 5th gear around 50-60 mph if it pops out of gear then it is low on fluid.. next i would question if wether or not your romping on it when it is not wanting to shift.. if the motor mounts are weak or stock the engine will tilt at high rpms causing the transmission/shift linkage to be off slightly making it not want to go into gear.. my question is how does it shift at low rpms/daily driving?

if it neither of the above then perhaps the transmission may be bad.. goodluck!

ok .. when I got my hatch it was a swap
auto to 5spd when they did the swap they used a clutch pedal out of a DA integra
it was the wrong pedal obviously and it was so hard to get it into gears and it grinded all the time I swaped clutch pedals and now it 900% better.

So I guess what im getting at is was your car an auto - man swap?

Before i test drove the again after he swap the tranny he filled it up with tranny fuild and i remember staying in 5th n it didnt slip out, as for the motor mounts u might be right about that,i'll make sure i ask him that tomorrow and get back to u but when i push it hard it doesnt go in to gear that well and driving it at low rmps i still felt like i had problems i cant even sit in N and just go 1st through 5
