Default speakers, on a budget

My 94 integra still has the stock speakers in it, and they don't sound very good. I have an alpine-9856 deck which is 18 watts RMS/50 peak x 4 channels.
I have around $200, preferably less, to spend on some speakers. I'm not expecting them to sound godly or anything, just something that wont distort when I turn the volume up a bit. I mostly listen to rock and techno. I have a 12" alpine type r sub, which is plenty of bass for me. If possible, I don't want to have to deal with an amp.

What speakers would you guys recommend?

Try Eclipse, [it's what I have in my 94LS, front and back] Infinity also makes some pretty good speakers that will fit, Pioneer has a couple models that will work.

I am replacing the old Eclipse 2way coax with Eclipse SP6510 Point Source, but keeping the old school Alpine CDA-7893. 94

Hint, the stock constant power on your teg can not supply the current the internal amp needs to work properly, run a fused 12ga power lead from the batt. and connect the Alpines constant lead, [yellow] to it, don't forget to cap the stock constant power, and if you are using a metal back support, [to stock rear support brace] for your HU you will not need a ground strap, if you are not using a metal back support then run a 12ga ground from the chassis of the HU to the cars chassis, [or metal dash sub-frame].

Your not going to get "decent" components for $100, nor do you want components if your not going to run an off-board amp for them, what you want is the most efficient standard 6.5" 2way you can find. 94

Find a set of good front speakers and leave the stock ones in the back or get rid of the rear speakers altogether. 94

thanks for the reply again.. can you recommend an actual set of speakers for me? When you say good it could be anything. How about these? http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-08-SET...0.m14 or http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-INFINI...0.m14 or possibly http://onlinecarstereo.com/Car...17167

I am considering spending a little more if i have to for an amp. I found http://www.crutchfield.com/p_4...p=115 on crutchfield. Would this be a decent amp? If not can you recommend one? It is 80 rms will that be a problem if the speakers are 60 rms?

no matter what you gonna get distortion at some point, generally the shittier the speakers and less watts you have going to them the lower the volume it will happen at....
i would suggest these if you're not buying an amp

Go with the Eclipse SP6510.

No, 80W driving 60W speakers is not a problem, in fact your better off being a little overpowered, it will give you "dynamic head room" and although I am no fan of Profile amps, the HA1040 will do the job.

The Eclipse SP6510 are the ones I will be installing in my 94LS along with a a JL Audio 300/4v2, the speakers will be replacing the 10year old Eclipse 2ways I have now, running off Alpine HU power. 94
