Problem in Throttle body area
Hi guys,
I recently had my 2000 accord auto swapped out for 5 speed.
The mechanic said he couldn't find a 2000 ECU for me so he used a 2002 instead. I was wondering if the following problem is related to it.
For some reason, I can rev my car pass red-line now o.O
The problem is, I hear this constant noise coming from the throttle body.
When I rev it lightly, the noise comes on for about 3-5 seconds. It sounds kinda like air going through a slightly opened metal tube.
As the noise go away I hear some sort of valve that gets sucked close.
Sorry I sound like an idiot....but I really don't know how to better describe it o.O

I'm going to sound ever stupid(er)
(if possible) and ask the obvious question.
The replacement ecm is verified as a Manual Transmission application, yes? (There is a different Part Number for either Auto or Manual Transmissions)
Anyone happen to jott down the ECM's Part number? It should read
37820-PAA-A04

I believe that you are hearing noise of air being sucked through the Idle Air Controller, since auto and manual have different idle strategy I would also think that the ECU may be incorrect. The ECU is probably commanding the IAC closed and that is the second noise you are hearing, how is the idle at that point.
I also recommend a complete cleaning of the throttle body and its interior ports while holding the RPMs up to keep the engine from dieing. If the sucking noise stops then stop cleaning at that point, the IAC is probably blocking your carb cleaner from going through that port so clean the ports quickly then do the main throttle body portion.

Well, he showed me the 2002 Manual ECU...and I'm almost certain that's the one he put in...if he had put an auto ECU in, the check engine light for auto tran would come on....
It would make sense to me that Manual and Auto have different idle strategy...but wouldn't the manual ECU know what to do?
Also...what is the redline on the 5 speed....cause apparently i can rev pass my auto limit of 6250rpm....i didn't want to rev it higher risking damaging something....
