Default Newbie Accord Owner Checking In...

I picked up a 92 EX, leather, 80k miles for $2000 Has 6-8 hail dings and a couple small problems, but otherwise it's in great shape...I practically stole it

Get ready for some dumb questions My first FWD car and my first Honda (had an 82 Celica when I was 16 but I've been RWD V8 since then)

Plans:
Tint
CD Player (probably look for a used stocker from somebody that upgraded)
Oil changes
Lots of miles :D

Needs work on:
power antenna (clicks and goes down all but 4")
passenger seat won't slide back and forth (haven't looked at it yet...previous owner told me about it)
driverside doorlock switch is loose
vibration in gear with AC on
1 CV boot is torn (how much to replace that and how hard/easy?)

I think that's about it...look forward to learning about the car and getting help here. This site was highly recommended by 2 Honda buddies that post here...

Wow, that was an awesome deal.

Did the previous owner tell if/when the timing belt was changed? If it hasn't been done, that should be high on your priority list of things to do.

About the CV Boot, its basically the same amount of work to replace the whole axle. Just goto your local autoparts store and get a new axle and replace it yourself, its not 'that' hard. Should only cost ~$70 for the axle.

I have no clue about the antenna, is it bent by chance?

you can get aftermarket CD changers (Alpine with adapter) that will plug straight in. stock unit may be hard to come by. there's a website you could check out but it slips my mind currently

Probably only need a new antenna insert to fix the antenna - cheap fix. But if you need a new unit its not gonna be cheap.

New boot is gonna cost you from a dealer or even a good independent garage. but can be done yourself. give the site a search and see what comes up.

about the antenna, id reccomend dropping by your local autozone or pepboys and grabbing a universal fit antenna. they sell an automatic one which includes the motor, antenna mast, mouting ball, etc for about $50 or so. i called honda to replace the automatic antenna on my 90 accord ex and they wanted about $350 for the whole assembly.

Nice choice on your new ride. I bought the whole power antenna unit off ebay witch includes the antenna and motor for $30. Easy to install took 30mins.

yea it was...amazing price for miles

not necessarily, the car only has 80k miles on it. honda recommends it being done at ~100,000 miles, and thats only recommended. Usually it will go longer. I replaced my timing belt in my old honda when it had about 170,000 miles on it, and thats only because the water pump needed replacing, and i figured id get both done while i was at it.

That's good to know that it can go longer, but I'm not gonna take much of a chance with it...

What happens when the belt breaks? Doesn't it make a difference if you're driving or just idling? Seems like I remember it going on my mom's 84 Civic wagon when she was stopped at a light and she got lucky...maybe I'm just dreaming though... :D

I checked it out last weekend and the other CV boot has busted now too. So I should just replace the axles all together and be done with it? Why not just the boots??

Thanks guys...

EDIT...
Oh yea...had it inspected and emissions tested today...the guy said it was as clean as a brand new car...he was impressed

If the belt breaks, valves will hit the pistons. Not good.
