E-Brake light always on
hey guys,
gotinto my teg this morning, and noticed that my power steering was making a whine sound- i thought it was cause of the cold weather at 48F here in orlando Fl this morning(it warmed up and went away) but then i noticed that my E-brake light was on, and i made sure my hand brake was in the down position, it was all the way down, so i then thought **** one of my belts is broken of, or come off the pully, checked the belts and they are all on, and are taught, i remeber seeing a thread on here about a month or two ago about have a loose hand brake, mine doesnt move laterally and does not move while im driveing, it seems to be tight, anywhat experince this before??? why does this light come on???
and when i do pull the hand brake up the "red Brake light" gets brighter
any ideas guys??
the car seems to drive fine , do you think a scanner would pick up whats wrong??
Mike

The brake light comes on when the brake fluid is low, in addition to when the e-brake is applied.
Belts have nothing to do with the braking system. Just so you know.

dont just check and add brake fluid. if your reservoir is low its for 2 reasons. either your brake pads are low and its putting more fluid to build more pressure to clamp the pad to the rotor to stop the car. or you have a leak. if your pads are good go find a leak. furthermore there is a sensor that detects when you apply your e-brake check that. DONT JUST GO ADDING FLUID WITHOUT CHECKING THESE. always remember the fluid has to go somewhere find it.

No, it's due to the fluid having to displace more space in the caliper. Regardless, the other info here is correct. You should check all lines, calipers, and all around the master cylinder for seeping or leakage.

Yeah I had a very slow leak around my MC, caused the paint on the boosted to bubble up and flake off, and eventually it made the brake pedal slowly sink to the floor. It caused my brake light to come on during one occasion I think. Replaced the MC and it's been good ever since.
i remember that tmy toyota pickup did show the CEL and ebrake light when the alt. belt was broken ... but yea guy's the owner before me ghetto rigged the sensor in the brake fluid cap and the wires werent connect, so i connected them a filled up the res., the turned off , so im glad it was that easy ... thansk for all your help guys...
