Default My new bike, just in time for winter!

Specs:
2001 Aprilia RSV Millie
-MES Heads
-Full race-only akropovic exhaust
-Showroomish condition
-BCM filters
-PC3 with very mild 92octane tune making 141whp and [freak]loads of torque
- -1 front +1 rear
-Motor is an absolute MADMAN!

Synopsis: I've never ridden a better motorcycle. The massive torque and insane powerband combined with classic Italian superbike handling make the Aprilia RSV a bike that can hang with anything on the road. Put up a real good fight against my buddy's MV Agusta F4 from a 60mph roll. I'd be more than happy to answer any ?'s

Best of luck getting parts in a timely fashion when something breaks. Other than that they are a lot of fun. Be careful not to abuse the starter.

I've never had issues gettign parts on "MOST" parts, but some things can be a royal pain in the ****.

FYI, as stated above, dont cook/over use the starter. If shes not firing up right away, get a trickle or jump on that battery asap.

i really like this bike but i hear they have horrible electrical gremlins. one guy was telling me if he doesnt keep it on the charger it wont start. i hear these motors are bulletproof though.

any opinions on this, it caught my attention

They do need to be kept charged for sure... no doubt about that. Also, with a piston that is near 100mm, you wont be push starting it either. But they do jump easily and are a blast to ride in the handling dept... best handling bike I have ever owned by far(Factory version with GP internals).

Not much to go on in that ad, but it looks okay. I think you can do a tad better in pricing. ask the guy if he has ever had his stator replaced. I prefer the 02-03 chassis a bit more in the mille series but its going to be more expensive.

Really nice bike...the blue is a spectacular color.

How would you say they compare to a Dewcati? 748 and 916 in particular?

My feeling is it handles better than the 916 out of the crate with ohlins... but that 916 is a different gen bike 1994+. the 748 would probably handle better due to its weight advantage, but then its down on power to the rotax. Like I had said, the 02-03's handle a messure better than the 99-00's or the 01-02's and the 04+ are even better... Price increases apply

Not a knock against AF1 at all, but it took over two months to get a major part from Aprilia through them. Again, not AF1's fault, it was a parts supply problem.

The 916 is a 97, so it should have less chances of the rocker flakeing. But if you are around 6ft tall the 916 is a bit cramped.
That said the 916 is one fun *** bike to ride. I miss mine, i had a 98 in PERFECT shape with around 21,000miles on it.
The sounds from the dry clutch, and the exhaust, and the way everything feels, makes you ride faster and faster lol All the mechanical noises are just sex,
And honestly you feel like a million bucks lol
clacnk, clank, clank, VROOOOM, clank, clank, VROOOOOOM lol. Love it
If you want a second bike, get the 916. if you want a bike to ride day in and day out look to one of the other choices.

nope started with the 916/748 series
1995 is really the best year to get for the 916. i think 1998 was suppsoed to be the worst year, but mine ran great
the charging system is also weak with the single phase setup.
they will also burn your *** and leg, and mine ran a bit hot when stuck in traffic or ideling at a LOOONG light. It would also like to just turn off when it got that hot.
It;s no fun to putter along at anything less than about 45mph either lol

I think we're talking about two different issues... you probably talking about the crank issue with oil galley

I am speaking to the rocker arm flaking... in later models no(all pre 200 units I believe)?

Anyway... ducks a good bike... apes a good bike... go riding

right on...They are both good bikes. Aprilia makes a better street bike...IMO. Plain and simple. ducatis are too hard to upkeep. I don't want to have to be thinking about where I'm going to be getting my next valve adjustment while riding. The RSV is a genuine madman on the street and exsactly what I wanted in a street machine. [freak] jap bikes....they're like school in summer time...this is all you need.

ape vs. ducati quick comparo
Aprillia vs. Ducati
*Pros
-more torque
-more top end
-more comfortable seating position, really feels like your sitting inside the bike
-great reliablilty
-good looks
-better suspension than my 748 and 916...and I don't even have the R version
-better handling....serious it feel a bit more planted and confidence inspiring
-Lots of extras like a clock and lap timer....ducati no have

*Cons
-not as sexy....oh its sexy just not as sexy
-higher center of gravity, which can make the rear step out a bit too easily
-No single sided swing arm
-sometimes TOO much torque
-Fairings dont come off so easy

DUCATI vs. Aprilia RSV

*Pros
-sexy as hell
-dry clutch if that's your thing...I loved it.
-Very easy to tear down and work on

*Cons
-reliabilty sucks
-6000 mile services that run you $500-700
-Always leaves you wanting just a bit more power
-Bad electronics
-torture rack seating position
-Gives you the hot *** syndrome...undertail exhaust gets very hot...getting carbon cans are a MUST

Bottom line.....DUCATIS FOR SHOW APES FOR A PRO!

nope fore sure there where flaking problems from 96-on
1995 916s don;t seem to ahve the problem. Ducati outsourced the plating on the rockers after 1996, and since then, let the flaking begin. 916, 748, 996, and even some 998s had the problem

and oh ya i forgot about the crank problem too lol
