my college roomate and one of my closest buddies sent me a "Call me ASAP" text at 2:40 AM this morning, i happened to just have rolled over and heard it, called him, and heard about it. car was in a small Northwest indiana town, a "quiet" place.
-ChampWhite car, has an OEM wing, OZ supperlegerra style semi-flat black wheels with BFG g-force TA tires, mint tread. also tossed his OEM wheels (also painted semiflat) in the car and took those too, along with several impact wrenches, tools, etc.
-car was in PERFECT condition-paint was 100%, mech. was 100% (95K MILES) seat had ONE cig burn in the middle of drivers side from original owner ,right in pan of cushion.
odd parts to keep an eye out for
-APEXi N1 susp. clean shape.
-modded Buddy club exhaust with a painted-black stainless, with the exhaust-to-muffler angle being a little steep (entrance of piping into muffler). not a perfectly smooth transition . i remember this because i welded the muffler on years ago, and we had to fit it a bit tight to clear the bumper. slightly "cheated" angle. if anyone sees this in a for sale thread pic, LET ME KNOW. only "giveaway" part that it would be his.
-stock wheels had 15% tread old azenis he used for track only.
-autopower black roll bar in back. perfect shape, had FIA padding all over it, zipped on.
-MOMO steering wheel., black. Corse? not sure.
-PLX devises M300 Wideband gauge
-JUN header, with wrap, perfectly wrapped, with the metal clips holding the wrap on. Josh was meticulous, and it was a NICE wrap job. look for that in threads if you can also.
thats all i can think of. PLEASE call the DYER indiana police if you hear anything. PM me also ,and i'll link you to the owner.
-this guy is like a brother to me, and lives very near me. very upsetting.
HOW IT WAS STOLEN. ....fricken unbelievable. This car has ALWAYS been garaged, and the garage has a deadlock on it, etc. well "protected". back yard fenced COMPLETELY, etc.
-wait until at least midnight (garage was last shut by his wife at 11-ish PM)
-he went into the basement to work a bit (couldnt sleep) at midnight.
-pryed window out carefully (left pry bar also, BTW).
-disable activated alarm on car. did not start car.
-loaded car up heavily with wheels/tools, or carried them out silently
-pushed car throught his other cars in driveway. NORMALLY completely blocked huge beater chevy 1500 z71 and his work van. tonight he left JUST enough room between their offset to squeeze car through...by like inches.
car gone. noticed garage 3/4 up for some reason at 1am-ish
PLEASE pm me or email me Adam@ef-honda.com if you have any info. one of the last 1997 cars is gone, and probably one of the cleanest ITRs in existence is gone.

that really sucks. Someone in the Chicago area is really jumpin on these Rs. So many have been stolen. Last week mine was stolen but recovered b.c I had a GPS. The crook was busted too as he was still in the car. The original post is here somewhere on the board. Layered security is the key. I really hope he gets the car back. some one is making a living off of our hard work.

only redeming factor is he had full coverage, etc, but you know he'll still lose money.
this really takes a lot of the fun out of the "hobby" for me.
hondas are starting to suck, and these things are the ONLY reason i feel that way.

Everybody needs to amp up their security systems and keep a gun handy. The only way this will stop is severe retribution on the spot, i.e. thief blood/brains on the floor.
May I suggest switches on the garage doors/windows and plug them into the door switch alarm circuit of your car. Just mount a sub-mini jack under rocker panel to plug into. when not in garage, plug in a dummy (shorted) plug to act as a bypass. Get some heavy chain and chain it down. and most garage doors have a padlock hasp in the track. Use it. I can get into a standard garage door lock in five minutes witha common screwdriver.

That sux for u US guys, not to be able to park it somewhere and constantly think about possible theft. Here where I life I could leave keys in car and noone would take it...
I hope you find her, whole, not stripped

That makes 3 or 4 garage thefts in the past month or so. If you have windows in your garage, time to put bars up, multiple dead bolts on all doors, etc. This is getting a bit ridiculous! Sorry for your friends loss, I hope he gets her back.
If my car stayed in a garage in chicago, it would be stored with the car on jack stands and the only wheels that will fit in the trunk of my other cars. Dizzy off, ECU out, driver seat out, chain thru the tow hooks, suspension parts, and all locked with the biggest [freak]ing lock I could find.
And if for some reason I didnt want my ITR......I'd park it in the driveway.

thieves are getting really gutsy now...and to think, your friend and his wife WERE HOME the whole time
talk about putting your family in danger
from the story you just gave, your friend was really careful and it still happened. you said his wife was the one that closed the garage door? maybe the thief was already waiting and planning this for how long. damn...imagine if a tool fell or some sound happened to alert your friend, what couldve of happened

This is BS!!! I can't believe this. I knew the owner before this current owner, Eddie down in KY and i would have never thought this would happen to his old ITR. I really don't want to move back to the Land of Lincoln now.
Again!! Open hunting season on thieves....shoot first, don't ask questions. Another garage theft.....
So sorry to hear....a clean '97 no less.

sounds like one crew of bastards hitting up all the safely kept ITRs.
For the rest of the R owners who care about keeping their cars, Really disable them !!! Like pulling off tires, removing anything and everything to pevent it from being rolled Away without atleast an hour worth of work.
Good luck, Chicago people and the OP.
