4th Gen Prelude, where to start.
I recently purchased a 1993 Prelude with an F221B motor from an 1994 Accord, the entire car has 95,112 miles on it, the motor has 32,415 after being built, basically stock, just has Spoon1 Headers and a performance ECU setup, not sure how it's tuned, I'll have to get the technical specs from my buddy at Orange Performance in Moulton, AL.
However, the VTEC isn't connected properly according to my mechanic, evidently the car had an improper solenoid on it that won't wire up to the VTEC, meaning I'm losing power and gas mileage as well. How simple of a fix is it to reconnect the VTEC, seeing as how the car is TUNED for the VTEC function, with a VTEC controller and all.
Secondly: I eventually plan to swap the automatic transmission for a manual: what tranny would be best fit for this car, and, on a pizza delivery guy's budget, what parts would I need to crank performance...
And lastly: how feasible would a new build on the block from that F221B be, using another head or something similar to try to increase power further? or should I pick up either an H22/H23 stock, and work from that point? Note that both engine and transmission swaps are long-term plans, as I"m quite happy with the car right now, it's in great shape, minus that little VTEC problem which my mechanic assures me is a simple fix.
PS: the car was DIRT cheap, and I'd wanted a prelude since I was 16, so I bought it on a whim, just for fun, and it's a great DD so far... I just want MORE.

i would piece together a cheap turbo kit like a dsm turbo kit. You can get those at junk yards for a couple hundred dollars and with a tune you can make some very decent power. That is what i would do anyway. The F22 is vtec correct? Like those jdm ones? As for that i would try and find a solenoid for that (correct one) or get some diagrams on how to properly wire it.
yeah it's SOHC VTEC as is, I'm gonna get the VTEC wired up properly today if I have time, and then I'm gonna get the controller tuned as well, hopefully my power after 80 mph will pick up with that VTEC working properly, because the car accelerates like a beast until 80, then it just has no power at all...
