Default Painting my side mirrors? Black strips on doors?

My Civic is red, but I was thinking about taking off my side mirrors, sanding them down and painting them black.

Is this feasible, and if so, what type of clear coat could/shoud I put on them afterwards? I don't have an air compressor, so would this be possible with rattle cans?

Also, this is 1993 EX. It has these big black strips down both doors. I've seen guys that don't have those. Is this just removing them and welding a metal piece over the exposed area and repainting? Or am I missing something?

take your mirrors off and take them to a body shop.. they won't charge much if all you want is just a quick scuff and shoot to make them black.. if you want a ghetto job just get yourself some rattle cans and go at it.. but it wont last all that long before it starts to look like ***

as far as your side moldings.. there are little holes all down the body under them.. it is possible to get rid of them.. but takes a good welder who can weld up the holes without warping the thin metal.. again a job for a body shop or experienced welder.. if you want to do a ghetto job on this too... just fill up the holes with bondo and paint over it.. but dont expect that to last longer than a few months.. if that..
