Door speakers
I have 4 inch speakers i want to put in the doors of my 90 crx. do i need adapters? how do i remove the speaker covers? i tryed but i think theres more than meets the eye. thanks.
Y would you want to replace the 6.5" speaker with a 4" speaker? Do a nice set of new 6.5"s. If you are set on a 4" you will have to make an adapter plate out of a thin wood. To take the covers off it should be 2 screws and pull them off
there are no speakers in the door and i have a nice pair of clarion 4 inch. 6.5 for the back. cant i use zip ties to hold the front 4s if i dont have adapters?
you could use zipties, but those have a tendency to crack over time. also, they might vibrate funny.
making an adapter is really easy though. my friend made an adapter for my crx rear speakers and we mounted 6x9 sony xplods back there perfectly.
just take your door panel off and trace the shape of the mounting point onto some plywood. make note of the screw holes on the door panel and on the speaker, insuring that they can all (or most) be used. then cut the wood, spray it with primer (so its sealed and wont rot if it somehow gets wet), paint it if you want to, screw the speaker in and mount it in the door.
both brackets should be identical (mirrored, of course) and if you can get a hold of a band saw, the cutting should only take you a few minutes. it worked out remarkably well for my 6x9's in the back.
