Default Question----

Why do people fix up old cars and then try to sell it for so much?

ie I'm looking for an eg for a daily, and after checking up on cl they're going for 5-10k range. Its understandable that since the effort and parts are put into the car that the price should slightly go up. But I don't know if the owner assumes that he/she will get whatever value they put into the car.
Not everyone has the same taste and want the same parts. I'm just curious as to why even bother trying to list a 10+ year old car for more then its market value, especially in this economy.

any inputs?

Thread title.

Theyre trying to make their money back? Cars are not an investment they are a loss.

Please read the stickies before posting.

As far as the prices of cars:

It's not like all of those people just fix cars and try to flip them. It sounds like you're looking at modified cars.

From looking at your threads you've made and threads you're watching, it seems you might lightly modify your S2000. Modifying cars shouldn't be totally foreign to you then.

If you dumped loads of cash into your S2000, you probably wouldn't sell it for stock prices either, right?

Granted the 5th gens are older, but that goes with those parts sometimes being much more difficult to find than parts for an S2000. A lot of your parts can probably still be purchased new. Many of the 5th gen parts need to be searched for heavily, sourced... Lots of time can pass before you find something and get it to your house.

The prices reflecting what they actually paid for the parts? Yes, some people will at least try to get as much as they possibly can for the car. High balling might help to get rid of the lower low *****.
