is tuning absolutely nesesary c.r. increase..?
I'm rebuilding my d16y8 with high compression zc dome pistons, apexi 1.5mm head gasket, and all oem bearings, etc. I have figured around 11.5-1 c.r. give or take a little bit. With this i also plan on running 93 octane and an aftermarket ignition system (msd). With everything else stock will it be okay to run it without a tune?? I plan on going with a stage 2 crower cam later on but finances won't allow everything right now. So is it ok to run the engine with 11.5-1 compression untuned?? Whenever i get the cam installed ill get it tuned but it'll take a couple months to afford that. So will i be ok or will my engine detonate itself to pieces??

Could you do it? Probably, but you won't feel the power increase without a proper tune. Do it right, or don't do it at all. Tuning can be done without dropping major coin.
I dont think a tune will be needed untill your drop in that cam but even then your stock computer should handle that setup pretty easy. Timing might be your only issue with that much compression. If your gonna get a cam in the near future I would not get it tuned just yet...just dont beat the hell out of it on a daily basis and you will be. Once you get that cam and adjustable cam gear get it tuned.
good luck on the build

Any ideas what i could do for timing? I could install an adjustable cam gear on it when i build it before i put the cam in but im unsure on how much to adjust??
