Default swap or make it clean

i got 91 civic hatch it has a d15b2 with a bad clutch not alot of power. im trying to decide whether to try to do a swap with around 1100$ or just make my car nice and clean. i want to do a swap to make it faster but if i do that thats all i can pretty much if i do that i wouldnt have money for paint rims or other accessories. its also my first car and would be my first swap so its a hard decision.

need some help with my decision as you can see it doesnt look all that nice both the doors were spray painted, ripped seats, scratched up rear bumper, bad taillights

Make it clean, 1100 bucks goes a lot further in looks than it does in motors.

if you where around me (although im here in SJ), ill make your car clean to your desired beauty. and 1100 is more than enough!

im like show and go. we just picked a perfectly running DA for 400 w/ a front end dmg and it has everything i need to swap into my cousins car. then i already mounts for B to EF from the junkyard for $16!! so. thats about 600 total including exhaust.. just be a bit patient and a great deal will come around like it did for us.

i'd do a swap first and have that beater sleeperific look for temporary. cause making a car look good can be done as you go..IMO. i did motor 1st then looks.

i gotta go with fixing the motor first if i were you i'd:
drop in a si tranny and new clutch($300-500)total
that way you could drop in a d16a6 a little further down the road yet you'd still have a new clutch and a close ration tranny;plus some money for "looks" just my 2 cents though

Replace your bad clutch, that engine will probably end up saving you money gas wise in the long run. Work on the looks.

why not get the car running right first, replace clutch and what ever mechanical malfunctions you got, then see where you wanna go from there. ive had that rear 1/4 rust covered in aluminum tape since i got my car, but its running smooth, quiet and strong, heat working for the winter, fluids changed, etc.

i like to work on my cars inside out. just my opinion.

I think you'd be spending $1100 on a fair paint job, that's including body work. You also don't want to paint over spray paint, so some areas would have to be stripped. If you change colors than you would want to paint the door jambs which also adds cost.

My suggestion....go buy some good tools and learn all you need to work on it yourself. gl

Totally agree with Kojack.

Put that money into having a good car. A mechanically sound car is way more useful that a bucket of bolts that looks great or mediocre performance in a shitbox. Like a bunch of people said, 1100 bones isn't gonna do much, properly.

Your car doesn't appear to have much rust on it. Body work and paint can probably wait. Project cars can take years to complete on a budget. Knowing everything about your car will save you huge amounts of money and make upgrading it way more successful and therefore much more enjoyable as a hobby.

i def. agree you should make the car reliable, but i.m.o. swap it or do a mini-me .... sleepeeeerrr.

fix your clutch!!!

or you could;
rattle can the fender
just get some stock headlights, a v-tec head, an exhaust, an intake mani, and a header.

im assuming is dual point.... so you would prolly have to do some wiring with either option.
