Default Function Form Coilover's

I'm looking for different opinions on Function/Form Type 1's. I'm thinking about purchasing a set. I don't track my car, so I don't need anything crazy. They'll basically be for a daily driver.

Is there anything comparable in the $600-$800 range?

I drive this car daily, are they comfortable for average road use if I lower the car a good deal. How low of a drop can you get from the Type 1's.

Feedback would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Function Form's valving is bullshit. I'd stay away from them.

Because they don't know how to tune a shock.

finally somebody gives some good info on those cheap coilovers. everybody keeps raving about how great they are. if they were so great they wouldn't be so cheap.

From my experiences they know absolutely nothing about how the actual shock is tuned for any application. When I was having issues with mine, the only response I got was, "I've had them on a ________ and they rode like butter." Not exactly 'technical' information...

I was (and still am) riding on Tein SS coilovers and they rode much better with better response from both bump and rebound. My Teins differ from the Function Forms greatly, and they perform much better. The design of the F2s should be superior to my Teins in theory for performance driving. For one, my Teins are twin tube shocks, where the F2s are monotube. Many suspension manufacturers are opting for monotube shocks now because they perform well during spirited driving. Also my Teins have much softer springs (7kg front/4kg rear). My F2s had 10kg/8kg springs, and on the stiffest setting, they were still softer than my Teins. Not to mention, the springs were linear springs where my Teins have progressive. My F2s had a separate height adjustment collar/perch while my Teins I lose preload when lowering the car. Granted, I was lower with my F2s than I was with my Teins, but I bottomed out EVERYWHERE I went. Things that would not have given my Teins a hard time, my F2s failed miserably. The performance wasn't too hot... So I thought I'd call the guys at Function and Form for some guidance or troubleshooting. All I got was, "They ride like butter." That one statement has tarnished my image of Function Form, and although they are a nice group of guys that have set out to be successful entrepreneurs, they have not provided a good product to the public in my opinion. I think with the right shock tuning that coilover set would be awesome, but in my opinion I was let down. Nothing against them, I just won't buy another one of their coilover sets.

Another reason I think so many people think they ride well is because it's their first set of coilovers so they do not know what a decent or great shock will do for their needs.

Well I was referring to Ksport, Function Form, or one of the more affordable coilover brands. I understand that the majority of suspension manufacturers buy parts that are manufactured in Taiwan, but many do the actual tuning of the suspension with an R&D team for that specific market (IE: PIC might buy a lot of parts manufactured in Taiwan but the assembly and tuning would be done in the United States). I was typing that as I was in a rush, and did not really get a chance to explain what I meant.

I actually was interested in your guy's setup as well (PIC Performance.)

How much would a full damper setup for a 94-01 Integra run me?

These were my final choices for what I may buy:

-Function Form Type 1
-Omni Power (kind of leaning towards this now)
-Blox
-PIC
-Tein Basic

I'm looking for a comfortable street-able spring rate, bare in mind that I don't need a amazing track coil over I drive this car daily. It's alright if the spring rates are a little softer for comfortableness (that's actually what I want.)

Have you used them in your car, or have personal experience with them to back this up? What did you expect out of them that you didn't get? For a college student on a budget they seem like the way to go for me?

my friend has been on type ones for 5 months already on his 91 civic hatchback. they seem fine. not too bumpy and not too stiff. hes a daily driver without the drag. he covers all the gaps and is tucked in. im planning on getting these too. they seem good for the price. i recommend these only for daily drivers who dont plan on drag or performance.

Function/Forms are a very solid coilover. I had them on my EG before it got stolen and really liked them. I plan on getting them again for my EK.

I'd go either PIC or FFs. I havent seen anything on Blox as its a relatively new coil, Teins i've heard mixed things about, I personally wouldn't use a coilover where you have to use OEM top hats on and I've seen omnis break at the base of the housing, those may have been older versions though.

PICs are awesome but are a bit stiffer than FFs. So basically, if you're running standard rates on both, FFs will be a bit softer, PICs will be a bit stiffer. So that may make your decision there.

Will have to vouche for the quality of PIC as well. Great coilover for a great price and I still was able to drop my sol quite low w/out messing w/ the preload. I was riding on the apex 8k/6k.

I'm in the same boat as OP (granted this is a old thread, but still..). If PIC had an application for my new ride I would hands down go for them again. But at this point I've narrowed down to Tein or F2. I like how F2, in theory, is designed the same way as PIC (from my understanding). And from what I've heard, I don't think Teins can give me the drop I want(2.5 - 3"), or can they?..
