Default ? on cat converter

im pretty knowledge on alot of things but this is one im not too sure on
well check engine lite went off and the code was saying that it was my catconverter and i took it to diff mechanic and both said the same thing about me having to change my cat converte cause it could clog up and mess my engine and i would have to pay $700 for a new and it needs to be for the exact same motor/car

now could it be just my sensor for cat or my O2 sensor causing this cause i have a small crack in my headers. and would i need the exact same motor catconverter or can use one of the junkyard and how else would i be able to check if it is the cat

im no expert either, but get the cracked fixed or you will just destroy another converter... if you fix it tho, just go aftermarket, should be ok.

what code was it by the way?

If the manifold is cracked you need to get another one. Pretty sure it's illegal to swap it for a used cat.

If this engine is a D16Y7 (you didn't say) the cat is integrated withe the exhaust manifold. CARB approved ones are very expensive.

CA is a great place but a bad place to own a Honda.

yes it is a d16y7 motor

you said it is entigrated to does that mean the exhaust and cat are all one piece

i cant get an aftermarket one cause of the carb?

the crack on the manifold is small and very slight

Aftermarket converters are much cheaper. They may not last as long, though. Magnaflow is a popular brand and it is sold online. Google for the best deal. I just put a Maganaflow on my 91 Civic and am happy with it.

Catalytic converters are unlikely to be found in a junkyard. This is because the precious metals CCs use make them valuable as scrap. Generally people take their old ones and sell them for $25 to $100, whence the scrap yard sees to the extraction of the precious metals. With the rise in the price of precious metals recently, many parts of the country have seen an epidemic of CC thefts. Special CC locks are even sold these days.
