Car flooded and crossovers got submerged. Fried system?
So my car was flooded last night and the crossovers and fuse splitter under my seats were submerged for a while. I removed the negative battery cable before the water got much deeper but im worried my system could have gotten fried. I didnt try to turn on anything for fear of doing more harm so i dont know either way. is it likely that my amp and speakers are ruined? the cd player still works btw. if i need to be more specific let me know. THANKS
I would say that the crossovers would be fine, especially if they are passive (requires no external power, which is most likely the case). Now, for the amp and speakers, i dont know.
I am not an expert on electronics that have been under water but all i can say is, if I were you, use clean water to clean off the elecronics(they were under water anyways so i dont think clean water could make anything worse than what it is now if anything is ruined), then dry everything completely and try to hook it up to a 12v power source to see if it works.
I am not sure about the speaker but if that was under water, i would use some clean water to flush it out in case crap got inside it.
I am not sure if this is the right way but, this is what I would do if I was in that situation because if the stuff was already under water, clean water to clean everything off with couldn't hurt it any more(i think)
Good luck

You may get lucky because you did not turn the system on, remove anything that got wet, open it up and clean it ASPA, use a electronic contact cleaner and a stiff brush, [fiber glassing brush] and clean rags and heat gun, [even hair dryer] to dry things up, more water may not hurt, but it will definitely not help.
Make sure all components are dry.
The above should work for amps and x-overs, [passive or active] but you will be very lucky if you can do anything with the speakers.
Question, how did the car get flooded?

well the only thing that got wet were the Crossovers so hopefully I can just clean them like that and be ok. My car was flooded in the lot behind my house because it rained all day. Im in charleston, sc and when its high tide the sewers back up so basically it was just a giant swimming pool outside complete with floating garbage cans and dirty *** beer water.

well sounds like the only thing that got f***** up is your car. since there was no electricity running through the crossovers while they were wet, you are golden. just clean it off, dry and ur good to go
Ditto the above^^^.
If flooding is a common thing in the "back lot" why not find higher ground to park, or build yourself a "ramp" in your parking spot, the kind you see at car sales lots, something that would get the car above flood "stage", [as long as that is not more the a foot or so].

Yeah next time its going to rain so hard I am definitely parking somewhere higher. This flood was exceptionally bad and unexpected so it definitely caught me off guard.
